Ogni festival rende possibile un’eccezionale intensificarsi di momenti d’incontro, dialogo, scambio. Secondo il taglio dato, delle umanità e delle opere coinvolte, si può con un festival fare segno verso sinergie inedite, prassi ibride da crocevia da inventare, intenti e azioni da far incontrare.

ALTO FEST ambisce a creare i presupposti, le condizioni per nuovi innesti, imprevedibili, quanto necessari, che possano avere luogo. Il Festival s’inserisce per questo nel tessuto urbano più intimo riuscendo a creare un incontro reale tra cittadini e artisti, capace di superare i confini che quotidianamente ci relegano in categorie superate da un nuovo modo di costruire relazioni, che non ha forse ancora trovato espressione.

ALTO FEST è un importante momento per tutte le realtà coinvolte per incontrarsi, confrontarsi, interrogarsi assieme sul senso, la direzione, le esigenze politiche e poetiche del proprio fare artistico in un particolare momento storico in cui la parola “crisi” è universale.

Il Festival alla sua terza edizione, si svolge negli spazi privati, donati per l’occasione dai cittadini (appartamenti, terrazzi, cortili, cantine, negozi, laboratori artigianali, palestre…), spazi pronti ad accogliere un rinnovato pensiero e una nuova consapevolezza, intenzioni pronte ad incontrarsi per trasformare il nostro quotidiano, farsi luogo d’inizio di un cambiamento. Vogliamo così sollecitare l’iniziativa dei singoli, mobilitare e mobilitarci per DARE LUOGO insieme, artisti, cittadini e pubblico, a una nuova riqualificazione umana/urbana.

ALTOFEST È UN FESTIVAL INDIPENDENTE E AUTOPRODOTTO CHE VIVE A MARGINE DEI SISTEMI FORTI DEL TEATRO ACCREDITATO, IN UNA CITTÀ COME NAPOLI, CHE SCONTA E FA SCONTARE L’INDIPENDENZA. LA SUA DIREZIONE ARTISTICA, TEATRINGESTAZIONE, PERSEGUE CON TENACIA ASPIRAZIONI NEOUMANISTICHE, NELL’OBIETTIVO DI RIQUALIFICARE I LUOGHI E I SUOI ABITANTI IN UNA RITROVATA RELAZIONE TEATRALE. IL FESTIVAL OCCUPA CONSENSUALMENTE SPAZI DOMESTICI E PRIVATI DI CITTADINI CHE DONANO LA LORO CASA AD ARTISTI SELEZIONATI, PER UN PROGRAMMA DI CREAZIONI, INTERVENTI, DIBATTITI E SPETTACOLI A BASSISSIMO IMPATTO SCENICO. UN FESTIVAL CHE REINTERPRETA LA RELAZIONE CON LA CITTÀ NON AVVILITA A MERA SCENOGRAFIA MA LUOGO DENSO DI ESISTENZE E DI VITE.

A CHI SI RIVOLGE
Il nostro invito è rivolto a performer, ricercatori, praticanti dell’arte e del pensiero, singoli artisti o collettivi. Sono escluse le formazioni amatoriali.

COME FUNZIONA
Gli spazi in cui si svolge il festival sono privati e sono donati dai cittadini, o su invito dell’organizzazione, o su manifestazione spontanea d’interesse. Essi possono essere di varia natura, di diverse dimensioni, all’aperto o al chiuso.

Gli artisti in programma hanno il compito di disegnare delle performance / opere
site-specific create in anteprima per ALTO FEST, o proporre opere del proprio repertorio, ma riqualificate in stretta relazione con i luoghi che le ospiteranno. A tal fine ogni artista avrà accesso ad un archivio web che raccoglie foto, planimetrie, limiti d’intervento per ogni luogo, interviste ai proprietari donatori di spazi e tutte le informazioni sui luoghi del festival.

Le opere presentate dovranno essere “nude”, ovvero senza quel supporto tecnico più strettamente teatrale e/o espositivo; i luoghi infatti dovranno essere abitati tecnicamente così come si presentano; non sono previsti allestimenti luci / fonica destinati agli usuali spazi performativi. Ma laddove sia necessario, nel reciproco rispetto dell’opera e del luogo, si potrà riqualificare il luogo scelto con supporti tecnici particolari, questi dovranno essere comunque a carico dell’artista e concordati con i proprietari degli spazi e con l’organizzazione.

Data la natura privata degli spazi il numero degli spettatori sarà limitato, per cui le opere potranno essere replicate più volte e in diversi orari.

La direzione del festival fornirà una lettera d’invito ufficiale agli artisti stranieri e a chi abbia la possibilità di chiedere una copertura dei costi di viaggio, attraverso le istituzioni culturali dei propri paesi, e/o risorse alternative.

A tutti gli artisti in programma sarà offerto l’alloggio gratuito presso i membri della RETE OSPITALE, formata da cittadini, amici e sostenitori; specifichiamo che per la natura stessa degli alloggi offerti, non è detto che i gruppi possano essere ospitati nello stesso luogo, e che la comodità non è garantita.

RESIDENZA OPERAPPARTAMENTO 2014
Tutti gli artisti in programma concorrono all’assegnazione di una residenza creativa di 20 giorni, per la creazione di un’OPERAPPARTAMENTO, che debutterà nel 2014 durante la IV edizione di ALTO FEST 2014. L’artista assegnatario riceverà un contributo di 500 euro, più l’intero incasso dell’Operappartamento, l’alloggio e il supporto tecnico già in dotazione del festival.
Per l’assegnazione della residenza, durante questa III edizione del festival sarà costituito un osservatorio critico, composto di uno studioso e ricercatore di storia del teatro, da un critico, da un curatore, da un donatore di spazio, da un membro di TeatrInGestAzione.

Le proposte, dovranno essere accompagnati da un estratto video dell’opera candidata, della durata non inferiore ai 3 min, ambientato in uno spazio domestico, o in un giardino, o in un terrazzo.
I materiali foto e video dovranno essere caricati sulle diverse piattaforme di condivisione disponibili online (youtube, flickr, pinterest, tumblr, ecc.), indicandone il link nell’apposita sezione dell’application form.

Every festival allows for an exceptional intensification of moments of meeting, dialogue and exchange. Depending on the mission of the festival, on the people and on the works involved, festivals can be an opportunity to develop unprecedented synergies, hybrid practices rising from newly invented crossroads and for the dialogue of intentions and actions

ALTOFEST aims to create the premises and the conditions for new unpredictable as well as necessary inserts. For this purpose ALTOFEST goes to the core of the most intimate urban texture managing to create an authentic exchange between the citizenry and artists, going beyond the boundaries that usually bind us in dated categories which can be overcome solely by a new system of creating relationships, a system that perhaps has not yet found its way.

The festival is an important occasion for all the people involved to meet, exchange and interrogate together on the meaning, the direction and the political and poetic needs of their artistic practice, especially in the peculiar historical period we are living in, when the word “crisis” is universal.
On its third edition, ALTO FEST is held in the private spaces donated for the occasion by citizens (apartments, terraces, courtyards, cellars, shops, artisans’ workshops, gyms…). All these spaces will be ready to welcome a fresh thought, a new awareness and the intentions to transform our daily doing by making space for change. We wish to urge the need to MAKE SPACE all together, artists, citizens and audience, for a new urban/human requalification.

The festival was nominated for the Premio Rete Critica 2012 (Critics Network Award) by the web editorial staff of “Culture Teatrali” (“Theatre Cultures”, review of the DAMS department of the University of Bologna) with the following motivation:
ALTOFEST IS AN INDEPENDENT AND SELF-PRODUCED FESTIVAL, LIVING ON THE MARGINS OF THE STRONGHOLD SYSTEM OF RENOWNED THEATRE, IN A CITY AS THAT OF NAPLES THAT STRUGGLES WITH AND CAUSES THE STRUGGLE OF INDEPENDENT ART-MAKING. THE ARTISTIC DIRECTION OF TEATRINGESTAZIONE, TENACIOUSLY PURSUES NEO HUMANISTIC ASPIRATIONS, WITH THE OBJECTIVE OF REGENERATING PLACES AND ITS INHABITANTS THROUGH A REDISCOVERED RELATIONSHIP WITH THEATRE. THE FESTIVAL CONSENSUALLY TAKES UP DOMESTIC AND PRIVATE SPACES OF CITIZENS WHO WILLINGLY DONATE THEIR HOMES TO SELECTED ARTISTS FOR CREATIONS, INTERVENTIONS, DEBATES AND PERFORMANCES WITH VERY LOW STAGE IMPACT. A FESTIVAL THAT RE-INTERPRETS THE RELATIONSHIP WITH THE CITY, WITHOUT TURNING IT INTO A MERE STAGE, BUT RATHER MAKING IT A SPACE FILLED OF EXISTENCES AND LIVES.

WHO IS THE FESTIVAL FOR
The festival invites professional performers, researchers, art and thought practitioners. Individuals as well as groups.

HOW DOES IT WORK
The spaces of the festival are private and are donated by citizens either on invite of the festival staff or spontaneously. Locations are of various kinds, of different size, indoor or outdoor.

Selected artists, will have to produce original performances or site-specific works, or present previously created works that will have to be adapted in close relationship with the venues where they will be presented. For this purpose, every artist will have access to an online archive including photos, site plans, and limits of intervention for each venue, interviews to the owners of the space and all the information concerning the locations of the festival.

Works will have to be “bare”, meaning that they should not require the technical support typical of theatres or exhibits. Artists will have to work with the technical elements available onsite, indeed ordinary performance light and sound design is not contemplated. If necessary and with a mutual respect of the work and of the venues, the space can be adapted with specific technical devices, that shall nonetheless be totally in charge of the artist, who will have to get the permission to use them, by the festival management and by the owner of the space.

Considering the private nature of venues, the number of spectators will be rather limited. For this reason, works will be performed more than once throughout the festival.
The festival will provide an invitation letter to all those artists, whether international or national, who will seek travel funding from cultural institutions of their countries or from other organizations.

Selected artists will be offered free accommodation, and they will be hosted by the members of the ACCOMMODATION NETWORK, made of citizens, friends and supporters. For the very nature of the accommodation provided, it is not guaranteed that groups of artists will be staying in the same house, and the level of comfort may vary from one accommodation to the other.

APPARTMENTWORK RESIDENCY 2014
All selected artists will have the opportunity to be selected for the creation residency of 20 days, for the production of an APPARTMENTWORK that will be performed in 2014 during the IV edition of ALTO FEST 2014. The artist who will be selected for the residency, will receive a production support of 500 Euro, all the earnings from the performance, accommodation, and technical support.
To assign the residency, the Festival will put together a critic’s panel, made of a scholar and researcher of history of theatre, a critic, a curator, a space donor and a member of TeatrInGestAzione.

SENDING THE APPLICATION
Work proposals have to be submitted using exclusively the application form available at www.altofest.net, or directly at link http://www.teatringestazione.com/dareluogo/?page_id=1772

work proposals will have to include a video excerpt of the work of at least 3 minutes, filmed in either a domestic space, a garden or a terrace
Photo and video material will have to be uploaded on one of the online sharing platforms such as (YouTube, flickr, pinterest, tumblr, etc.), and the link shall be included in the specific field of the application form.
