Domenico Zizzi

Domenico Zizzi is born in Cisternino (Br) - ITALY on March 23, 1981.
Was professor of tuba at the Institute of Musical Studies "P. I. Tchaikovsky " (Lamezia Terme) from 2007 to 2011.
He has won short term contracts from various orchestras, including, Maggio Musicale Fiorentino (Florence), Orchestra Toscanini (Parma), Orchestra Lirico Sinfonica (Lecce).

Bachelor’s Diploma in tuba at the Conservatorio "D. Cimarosa," in Avellino. He has completed Performer’s Certificates with the orchestras “A. Toscanini” in Parma and the" Maggio Musicale Fiorentino," studying, respctively, with Maestros Andrea Conti and Mario Barsotti.

As a soloist, he won the Yamaha Competition (Milan).

As an orchestral musician, he has performed with the Maggio Musicale Fiorentino, A. Toscanini di Parma, Orchestra Internazionale d’Italia, Orchestra Sinfonica di Bari, and Orchestra Cherubini, under the direction of conductors including Zubin Mehta, Riccardo Muti, Dennis Russel Davies, Fabio Luisi.

He studied with internationally renowned teachers including Rex Martin, Roger Bobo, Alain Cazes, David Glidden and Robert Tucci.
He received a bachelor's degree from the Polytechnic "Ars et Scientia" in Vibo Valentia in tuba, with a thesis on the relationship between singing and brass instrumentalists with a final vote 110/110.
He completed two Masters Diplomas for soloists, one at the Institute "G. Paisiello "of Taranto and the other at the Conservatory "N. Rota" Monopoli (Bari).

As a soloist, he has performed the Vaughan Williams Concerto for Tuba with the Magna Grecia Orchestra (Taranto) under Karl Martin, and the Italian premieres of the Concerti for Tuba Orchestra of John Williams, with the same orchestra, and Jan Koetsier, with the Orchestra da Camera di Bari.

He is the editor of various transcriptions and arrangements for tuba for the Label "Four".

Domenico Zizzi is the referral for the Historical Regional Bands of Apulia, he is a music adviser of the Regional Office of Historical Archives of Apulia and since 2013 he has worked with the Michigan State University on the publication: "Solid Brass" (the biography of Leonard Facone).

He is Principal Tuba of the Orchestra Lirico Sinfonico di Lecce.

He is the president of the Federation of Bands in Puglia, and is currently involved in researching their history and musicians for the creation of a museum of the history of the traditional wind band in Puglia.
In 2012, he was the artistic director of the Paolo Grassi Theater, Cisternino.

Winter of 2014 see the release of his solo CD “Ulysseys,” which contains new works commisioned from Italian composers, such as Vito Palumbo and Franceso Traversi, including two concerti for tuba and dedicated to the region of Puglia.
