The show "Malena and the Tango" featuring the extraordinary Barbara De Rossi is coming to the Govi Theater in Genoa, joined by Martina Marinelli. It is written by Gianvito Pulzone, with evocative direction by Francesco Branchetti, produced by Evetimes Productions. "MALENA and the Tango" is a sensual enchantment revealed on a magical night, where "in a night wrapped in the magic of tango, a stage transforms into a place of passion, nostalgia, and poetry". It's not just a theater performance but an intimate and poignant journey into the soul of a musical and poetic genre that has captivated generations.
The protagonist, Malena—inspired by the song "Malena canta el tango"—becomes the voice of a universe made of "interwoven stories and deep feelings". Her words guide the audience through a maze of emotions, evoking images of lives lived to the rhythm of tango. Her enchanting voice blends with poetry in a continuous and compelling dialogue between words and music.
The music pays homage to the great masters of the genre, with "the notes of Astor Piazzolla, Carlos Gardel, Aníbal Troilo, and Osvaldo Pugliese resonating powerfully and seductively, transporting spectators to another dimension". Iconic pieces like "Oblivion", "Volver", "Vuelvo al sur", and "Malena canta el tango" come to life on stage, each telling a different story, yet united by a common thread—"the beauty, power, and strength of tango". Thus, tango reveals itself not only as dance but as a "philosophy of life, a collective narrative embracing stories of love, pain, struggle, and hope", where every melody and every step tells of lives lived, of encounters and separations, of dreams and realities.
The allure of the show, as director Francesco Branchetti adds, is further enriched by the music, which plays a true actor's role from the introduction with the powerful poetry evoking 'Oblivion' by Astor Piazzolla. The melody is sweet and melancholic, creating the perfect atmosphere for the beginning of the show". In perfect synergy, the actress begins her “journey”, and the acting follows the emotional wave of the music, an enchanted and evoked world, with "crescendo and decrescendo at various points—music and interpretation become one".
In this show, tango is not just a dance but poetry taking shape; it is a sublimation of love in spirit, the perfect fusion of bodies with souls, fantasy becoming reality, reality becoming life: it is poetry in motion, a philosophy of life revealing the mystery of desire and the elegance of nostalgia, inviting the spectator to be enveloped by the magic of a timeless dream through scenic and symbolic elements of a magical world that the show brings back to life, also through wonderful lights, evoking a world of magic, the scent of the unknown, feminine allure, and eternal passion, leading the spectator on an unprecedented journey into love and passions. The direction brings out the extraordinary ability to explore the human soul through music, tones, atmospheres, colors, and the extraordinary performance of an actress.
