Ron Anderson’s PAK (USA) – free jazz/sperimentale
"Totally unique and killing!" – John Zorn
More on this later!
Powerful, complex, prog-punk-jazz, multiple layer soundscapes. Ruins/Lighting Bolt meets. This Heat/Faust. PAK returns to Europe as a duet with a new CD, Secret Curve on John Zorn’sTzadik label. Ron Anderson composer/bass guitarist and powerhouse drummer Keith Abrams will perform the music from the CD, an instrumental music that at time sounds like jazz, but has all the power and sweat of a raging prog-punk band without the electric guitar. They know how to challenge the listener with complex time structures and fast playing, but they are also musicians who are not afraid of playing something simple or just letting a moment happen.
“Rest assured: an album like Secret Curve will only be released once or twice every decade.” Disagreement.net
“Anderson has willed into being something so mind-bending, frenetic, and complex—but tight and composed—that it mocks attempts to fit it into genre boundaries or even find points of reference to map its trajectories. This is a record that even normally cautious aficionados might use the word “masterpiece” to describe.” - Justin Vellucci – Brooklyn Rail
“Like Anderson’s past work with the Molecules back in the late 80’s/early 90’s, PAK explores equally manic sonic terrain, built on fractured, lightning fast time changes, Anderson’s wild, twisted yet melodic soloing and chaotic vocal accents. Although Anderson’s past releases have always exploded with energy and ideas, PAK is the first to fully actualize his musical vision with its pristine production values and compositional embellishments.” - Paul Lemos – Big Takeover #55
“It would be hard to imagine anything more perfect... Pushing both speed and accuracy to the limit, the pair run through 46 minutes of metronome-busting changes” - Dave Mandl -Wire
