**L'Aquila, Italian Capital of Culture 2026, welcomes "Anatomies of the Sign," an international collective exhibition conceived and curated by Nicoletta Rossotti, National Coordinator of the International Medicean Academy.**
The inauguration is scheduled for Sunday, August 2nd, at 5 PM in the spaces of the Palazzo dell'Emiciclo (Palazzo delle Esposizioni), home of the Abruzzo Regional Council. This event is part of the cultural program of L'Aquila Capital of Culture 2026.
The exhibition will run until August 16th and aims to bring together artists from different countries in a symbolic city, focusing on the universal language of the sign, understood as the origin of the creative gesture and contemporary artistic research.
"Anatomies of the Sign" is an international collective exhibition that includes a personal section dedicated to Pierpaolo Mancinelli, who engages in a dialogue with the works of other invited artists. Stefano Zaniboni participates as the only selected sculptor.
This event also pays tribute to master Gianni Testa. His daughter, Chiara Testa, who preserves and enhances his artistic and cultural heritage, will be present.
The project explores the sign as a fundamental element of expression. Through painting and sculpture, the works narrate the evolution of the creative gesture, from the essentiality of the stroke to the complexity of matter and color, along a path that intertwines aesthetic research, experimentation, and reflection on contemporary visual language.
Exhibiting artists include: Pierpaolo Mancinelli, Carlos Antonio Sablon, Fredy Villamil, Lorena Reyes Clavijo, Françoise De Gail, Stephan Padu, Miyuki Tahanashi, Stefan Beiu, Lineda Buffa, Michael Dankner, Piera Bachiocco, Riccardo Salusti, Stefano Zaniboni, Marilena Memmi, Alessio Mariani, Marco Guidi, Alessandra Meschini, Lidia Di Giorgio, Francesca Diana Martines, Ester Cimmino, Annamaria Campus, and Mahdyya Laher.
The exhibition is promoted with the sponsorship of the International Medicean Academy, the Abruzzo Regional Council, the Foundation of the Savings Bank of the Province of L'Aquila, and the Cultural Association Arte Nuova, and it is included in the official calendar of L'Aquila Capital of Culture 2026.
The inauguration will feature remarks by the Mayor of L'Aquila, Pierluigi Biondi, the Cultural Councillor of the Abruzzo Region, Roberto Santangelo, and the President of the International Medicean Academy, Michele F. Coppola.
The exhibition will be open for visits every day from 9 AM to 7 PM, with free admission.
