THE COLORS OF AUTUMN

Trekking in the National Park of Sila Piccola from 1st to 3rd November 2024

PRESENTATION:

The journey I propose in Sila Grande has something enchanted. Sila with its "Nordic" style suggests almost boreal atmospheres, an absolutely unusual place in the naturalistic panorama of southern Italy. Wooden cottages with a fairytale taste, lakes with a Nordic appearance, good food, breathtaking views, primordial forests, and prehistoric rocks will accompany us ready to discover a world suspended between north and south, reality and fairy tale. Among the dominant trees of the park, the Calabrian pine counts specimens of extraordinary size, over 400 years old, with a diameter of 2 meters and dizzying heights exceeding 40 meters, the symbol of the park is an elegant, majestic tree, almost a giant. We invite you to come with us to enjoy these wonders.

ITINERARY:

Friday, November 1st:
Fallistro
10:00 am Meeting in Fallistro and at the FAI (Italian Environmental Fund) reserve "Giganti della Sila", among the most suggestive in the Sila National Park. There are centuries-old specimens of Calabrian pine, some reaching up to 45 meters in height. Ticket 6 euros. 12:00 pm Picnic lunch

Silvana Mansio
In the afternoon we move to Silvana Mansio, a small and fairytale wooden village from the early 1900s. Short visit. In the evening, we reach our accommodation.

Saturday, November 2nd
Lake Ariamacina

Hiking Difficulty [E]
7:00 am Meeting at the Red Cloister in Lorica with car transfer to Lake Ariamacina. We will walk along the path among tall pine trees and reach Lake Ariamacina, a privileged position where the view will leave us breathless, the path continues until we reach the top if weather permits.

2:00 pm Optional lunch at "Locomotiva", a typical restaurant in a vintage train.

Evening in Lorica-Autumn festival

Sunday, November 3rd
Fossiata-Macchialonga

8:00 am Meeting at the Red Cloister in Lorica with car transfer to Fossiata Bosco-Arboretum of community importance and excursion towards Macchialonga.

In the afternoon, coffee break at the Cupone visitor center and farewells

Notes:

In case of bad weather, the program may be subject to changes at the discretion of the guide, for example, guided tours of the Mancuso village and its naturalistic museum in Sila Piccola or the Cupone visitor center may be proposed.

Technical support with Environmental Hiking Guide. Payment exclusively by bank transfer. The participation fee does not include travel expenses, meals and accommodation of the participants, meals and entrance fees to the giants and anything else not specified. EVENT CANCELLATION:
Any changes may be due to adverse weather conditions, participants' lack of preparation, or other unforeseen causes. Safety is given the highest priority.

In case of cancellation of the event, participants who have already paid the deposit will receive a voucher valid for any excursion of the same value. In case of cancellation by the participant, the fee or deposit is non-refundable.

EQUIPMENT (mandatory)

Layered clothing, long hiking pants, short-sleeve shirt in technical material, long-sleeve thermal shirt, high ankle hiking boots in good condition with "tank tread" sole and suitable for hiking, waterproof windbreaker jacket, warm layer (fleece, or down jacket), headgear, sunglasses, comfortable backpack (capacity 30/40 liters) in good condition, picnic lunch and personal supply of water of at least 1.5 liters. Recommended the use of hiking poles. Headlamp. The use of cotton clothing is not recommended. Hikers not properly equipped may be excluded from the excursion at the guide's discretion directly at the departure location.
