Una passione al Teatro Serra debutta una storia sul coraggio

At the Serra Theater in Naples, the first of eleven absolute debuts of the season: "Una passione" by Valentina Diana, a tale that is both comedic and dramatic about humanity and its hopes, in the light of the Passion of Christ. Directed by Armando Distinto, with Simone Di Meglio as assistant director. From October 18 to 20 (Friday at 9:00 pm, Saturday at 7:00 pm, Sunday at 6:00 pm) in Fuorigrotta, at Via Diocleziano 316. An actor on stage unexpectedly finds himself in front of the audience waiting for a biblical epic about the Passion of Christ to begin; but the show is canceled and the man on stage, a mere extra, is the only one who wasn't informed. Involuntarily taking the lead, after some hesitation, he decides to carry on with the show alone, mixing fragments of the script - which he only partially knows - with his own personal meanderings, at times fanciful and eccentric, at other times more critical and realistic about people, their hopes, and the obstacles of history. This attempt of his will become the true representation, an act of courage and vulnerability together.
"This text seeks to capture the moment when an improvised protagonist abandons their certainties to engage in an active and open dialogue with others, with the audience, becoming their interlocutor embodying doubts, fears, and expectations - says the director. When I read it, it seemed to speak to my generation and, more generally, to all of us; it's not just the rehearsed story of a performer, but the attempt to build a community facing the difficulty of pursuing our goals, as individuals and as a collective."
In an attempt to mend the plot of the Passion, the narrator on stage rewrites it, evoking the eternal and universal events of human history: from the lack of critical thinking, which has too often led peoples to commit the most heinous massacres, guided by "any Herod", to the surreal dialogue between Jesus and his parents, a portrayal of the gap of incomprehension between generations and the consequent lack of points of reference, which will never prevent humanity from charting new paths, opening new hopes, nurturing the sensitivity that makes no noise.
A dialogue that unfolds with spontaneous lightness, combining two existential and spatial dimensions: the reality of the missed performance and the truth of the man who will give life to his own Passion, "One" of the many possible.
