A woman, Isis, Goddess and contemporary Woman, looks at herself in the mirror and no longer sees herself; as if she had dematerialized, she has lost her own image. The doctor she consults mocks her, and she continues to look at herself in the mirror. As days go by, she sees the appearance of three mysterious figures, three old ladies who are insolent and provocative, who will lead her on a journey—an initiatory path—to discover herself and her own Soul, against the backdrop of a Parthenope that is part of her, in search of the oldest question there is: "Who am I?". "Often parts of us become unrecognizable to ourselves. We become blind to who we are and need to reintegrate the parts of us that we don't recognize and take responsibility for them. It's a psychological process identified by Gestalt theories of the early twentieth century, also representing the metaphor of the disintegration of the Self," explains the director and author.
Imagined as a site-specific performance also involving live flames for the open-air arrangement in the Phlegraean space, it will use fluorescent elements: "we have worked a lot with theater and street art, developing an idea of a modifiable and ever-living show, with elements that change depending on the spaces, but also evolve with us, and the fluorescent, with its visual effects, attracts us a lot," notes the company.
Written and performed in Italian and Neapolitan, “Iside and the Moon” is part of a broader and ancient research that explores the sacred feminine, drawing from the Egyptian-Partenopean esoteric tradition with the aim of presenting an initiatory path through theater, involving voice, body, dance, and music, with musical pieces from the Campanian tradition and a performance style that is comically grotesque, featuring visual effects, percussion, and a cappella singing. The show, which debuted in 2022 at the Archaeological Park of the Phlegraean Fields, arrives at the Fuorigrotta space after being presented at the Net Festival in Naples and the Festa dei Folli in Nola.
