Giovanni Mascia, born in Benevento in 2003, is a young pianist who began studying piano at the age of seven at the Conservatory “Nicola Sala” in his hometown, under the guidance of Gabriella Sisillo.
He completed his academic course at only seventeen, earning the Piano Diploma (old regulations) with the highest marks, honors and a special mention.
Since 2020 he has continued his training with Salvatore Orlando, a pupil of Sergio Fiorentino: a decisive encounter that has profoundly marked his artistic and interpretive development.
With Salvatore Orlando he has developed a highly effective technique, never an end in itself, founded on a deep and conscious understanding of music, accompanied by a more intense and reflective perspective — a methodology that shapes musical thinkers.
At the same time he has taken part in piano sessions with Francesco Libetta at the “Paolo Grassi” Foundation in Martina Franca, an environment that has allowed him to engage with pianism of the highest level, further broadening his interpretive horizons.
He has attended masterclasses with internationally renowned pianists such as Alexander Romanovsky, Norma Fisher, Konstantin Lifschitz, Sergey Kuznetsov, Ilya Itin and Alexander Lonquich.
Over the years he has won eleven first prizes in national and international piano competitions (in their respective categories).
Among these stands out the XII European Piano Competition “Don Enrico Smaldone,” where he was also awarded the Critics’ Prize “For notable technical and interpretive maturity.”
As a concert performer, he has already appeared in prestigious settings: the Miami International Piano Festival Academy; the Aldo Ciccolini Foundation in Trani; the Institut Français “Grenoble” in Naples for “I concerti dell’Umanitaria”; the festival “Un piano per Sepino” in the archaeological area of Altilia Saepinum; and in various venues in France, including the GRRRANIT Théâtre and the Cathedral of Saint-Christophe in Belfort. He has also performed at the Teatro Concordia in San Marino for the “Armonie” series, and at the Malatesta Castle in Longiano for the “Sagge sono le muse” series.
On these latter occasions, in addition to performing as a soloist, he played Mozart’s Concerto K.488 with the “Camerata del Titano” orchestra, conducted by Francesco Libetta.
Upcoming engagements include the Alagna Valsesia Music Festival in 2026 and a project at the Franz Liszt Academy of Budapest in 2027.
Alongside piano study, he is pursuing a two-year course in Composition with Claudio Gabriele at the Nicola Sala Conservatory of Benevento, enriching his musical culture from both a structural and creative point of view.
