Sarajevo
Theatre
Sarajevo will be performed at Theatron in Portici (via Michelangelo Naldi 19, Portici – NA), on Saturday, February 21 at 8:30 PM and Sunday, February 22 at 6:30 PM. Written by Biagio Di Carlo and Mario Gelardi and directed by the latter, the show is a production of the Nuovo Teatro Sanità, in collaboration with Lombardi Creative Studios. The cast includes Giovanna Sannino, Francesco Ferrante, and Roberto Caccioppoli, who star in an intense story intertwining family ties, identity, and memory. The sudden return of a brother after a long absence becomes the catalyst for a narrative that confronts the war experienced outside and the ongoing war within individuals, filled with secrets, wounds, and unanswered questions about the very meaning of family. The full ticket costs 10 euros and can be purchased at the box office one hour before the show starts, subject to availability, or online at www.azzurroservice.net. Three siblings: Gabriele, the eldest with a passion for travel, Anna, attached to her camera, and Davide, young, rebellious, and angry, find themselves reunited after their father's death, a simple and emotionally detached man. Their mother, a war photographer, is rather devastated by the images of violence she has captured and sold and, unable to let go, has taken refuge in alcohol. Gabriele's return reopens old wounds and silences. He wants to speak only with his siblings, to piece together the fragments of a life marked by a secret and to try to reconstruct a vision of family. But secrets are like links in a chain, and each person's identity is called into question. Against the backdrop of an ethnic war that has left indelible scars, new victims emerge in search of a place in Sarajevo. What is a family? Is having the same blood necessary to call oneself siblings? The story questions the value of identity, who we are and who we want to be, showing how war leaves indelible marks even when time has passed, even when one has survived or fled far away.
“With Sarajevo, I wanted to work on an essential direction, able to leave space for the emotional tension between the characters and the actors’ performances," says director Mario Gelardi. "The stage becomes a mental place where past and present overlap and communication falters. It’s a show that arises from the failure of dialogue but also from the deep and indispensable need to be seen and recognized. A painful investigation into what remains of family when History breaks into private lives and continues to bear its weight.”
The three young protagonists of this story have become popular faces in recent years thanks to significant television and film experiences. Giovanna Sannino is among the most beloved faces of Mare fuori and is an actress with extensive theatrical training. Francesco Ferrante is one of the protagonists of the Rai series Il Clan and also starred in one of the most iconic moments of Paolo Sorrentino's film, Parthenope. Roberto Caccioppoli, a graduate of the Centro Sperimentale di Cinematografia, has worked in numerous film and television productions. In theater, he has collaborated with Roberto Cavosi, Francesco Saponaro, Gabriele Russo, Pietro Maccarinelli, and Massimo Mascia. Completing the project are the sets by Enzo Leone, lighting by Alessandro Messina, costumes by Giulia Contrastato, and assistant direction by Macky Montella.
