PRESS RELEASE
CHRONOS - International Contemporary Art Exhibition
Within the historic Church of Santa Maria di Portosalvo, a rare example of 16th-century Neapolitan religious architecture enriched by elegant Rococo decorative elements, CHRONOS comes to life: an international contemporary art exhibition dedicated to the theme of time.
Through a dialogue among artworks, artistic languages, and sensibilities from diverse cultural backgrounds, the exhibition invites visitors to reflect on time as memory, transformation, waiting, and possibility, creating a compelling encounter between contemporary artistic expression and the depth of history.
The exhibition features 43 national and international artists, presented through both physical installations and video exhibitions, each engaging with the concept of time as a living material: a time that leaves traces, consumes and regenerates, suspends and reawakens perception.
The dialogue between the contemporary artworks and the church’s historic architecture amplifies reflections on the relationship between memory and the present, permanence and change, transforming the exhibition space into a place of passage and contemplation.
The exhibition unfolds as a journey through visual and conceptual fragments, where painting, photography, sculpture, and digital art interact and converge. Each artwork represents a point of transition between past, present, and future, offering both an intimate and collective reflection on the meaning of time in contemporary society.
CHRONOS does not propose a single narrative; rather, it creates an open space for experience and interpretation, where visitors are invited to pause, observe, and actively participate. Time thus becomes an emotional and intellectual experience, a place of memory and possibility, a surface upon which gestures, images, and visions are inscribed.
The exhibition is curated by Maria Di Stasio and organized by the Athenae Artis Cultural Association.
On 14 June, the exhibition’s vernissage will take place, conceived as a moment of encounter, listening, and dialogue through art. On this occasion, art critic and art historian Mariangela Bognolo will guide visitors through the exhibition, engaging directly with both the artists and the expressive languages represented in the show.
The vernissage is designed as a shared experience, capable of generating reflection, fostering relationships, and opening new perspectives of meaning.
