Figures emerging from the shadows, instruments that seem alive, faces captivated and flooded with light: these are the photographs in the exhibition **“Photographing Jazz”** by Maestro Francesco Truono, which opens on Friday, August 28 at 11:30 a.m. and runs through Sunday, September 20, at Palazzo d’Avalos in Procida. The event will be accompanied by the press conference presenting the first edition of the **Procida Jazz Fest**, scheduled to take place on the island from September 10 to 13. Information: procidajazzfest@gmail.com, 388 8140469, 334 3224441.
The festival is promoted by the associations New Around Midnight and Napoli Jazz Club, supported by the Ministry of Culture, the Campania Region, and the Metropolitan City of Naples, in collaboration with the Municipality of Procida. Artistic direction: Michele Solipano.
The festival offers a rich program of events exploring the roots and cross-pollination of jazz, from swing to African American bebop, from Latin influences to bossa nova, and finally to the meeting between American standards and Italian singer-songwriter music. There will be twelve concerts—two of them solo piano performances at dawn—held at five venues, featuring more than fifty national and international artists, including musicians of the caliber of Fabrizio Bosso, Max Ionata, Hakan Başar, Javier Girotto, Dany Noel, and Gianluca Guidi. The program also includes a seminar on the history of jazz music, from its origins through the 1950s, led by writer and director Lino Volpe.
The stated aim is to extend Procida’s tourist season through a high-quality artistic and cultural program aimed at enthusiasts and visitors, while promoting the island’s beauty within Italy’s national jazz-festival circuit.
