Al "Procida Jazz Fest" una rassegna di stelle internazionali

Profiles barely emerging from the darkness, instruments that seem animated, absorbed faces flooded with light: these are the photographs in Francesco Truono’s exhibition **“Photographing Jazz”**, open every day until September 20, from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. For information: asspalazzodavalos@gmail.com, 333 3510701, 081 8969048.

The exhibition features thirty images documenting more than twenty years of work alongside major performers—Javier Girotto, Pino Daniele, James Senese, Chick Corea, Dee Dee Bridgewater, James Brown, Ornella Vanoni, Gino Paoli, and others. It opened in Procida, at Palazzo d’Avalos, as a preview of the first edition of the **Procida Jazz Fest**, which will bring the island to life from September 10 to 13.

The festival will include twelve concerts—two of them at dawn—across five venues, with more than fifty artists taking part in a musical journey exploring the languages of jazz and its many fusions. The event is promoted by the associations New Around Midnight, Napoli Jazz Club, and Marina di Procida, in collaboration with the Ministry of Culture, the Campania Region, the Metropolitan City of Naples, and the Municipality of Procida. “Bringing jazz music to evocative places steeped in history is a way of establishing a new relationship with the city,” says Artistic Director Solipano, who has organized events in prestigious venues such as Castel Sant’Elmo and the Church of San Giovanni Maggiore in Naples, the Roman Theatre of Benevento, and now Procida.

The stated aim is to place the island on the circuit of jazz festivals and extend the tourist season. “We strongly believe in culture and high-quality events as a way of promoting the area beyond the summer,” emphasizes Alessandra Gentile, municipal councillor for the Municipality of Procida.

The festival opens on Thursday, September 10, with the Half Century Trio Orchestra, a big band made up of island-based musicians, led by Francesco Trio.

On Friday, September 11, at 7:00 p.m., the Tenimento Agricolo di Terra Murata will host a concert by the trio led by Turkish star Hakan Başar. The following morning, at 6:00 a.m., Başar will perform a solo piano concert at the Molo di Sopraflutto. At 9:00 p.m., at the Marina, Max Ionata & Hammond Groovers 4et will take the stage.

On Saturday, September 12, at 7:00 p.m., also at the Tenimento Agricolo, audiences can enjoy the Cuban rhythms of the Dany Noel Latin Jazz Trio. At 9:00 p.m., at the Marina, there will be a performance by the Giuseppe Venezia 5et featuring Fabrizio Bosso.

The festival concludes on Sunday, September 13. At dawn, the Procida pianist Maria Grazia Ritrovato will perform at the Molo di Sopraflutto. At sunset, the Freedom Jazz Quartet and Argentine jazz legend Javier Girotto will perform at the Tenimento Agricolo. The evening will conclude at the port with Gianluca Guidi and the Elio Coppola Trio paying tribute to Frank Sinatra.

From September 11 to 13, at 11:00 a.m., the Council Chamber will host the seminar series **“Stories of Jazz,”** led by writer and director Lino Volpe. On Sunday at 5:00 p.m., Volpe will present his book *Jazz Story: The Diary of Tony Monten*, an essay in novel form that will be adapted into a series for Amazon Prime.
