The morning program is entirely dedicated to Emanuele Barbella, a Neapolitan composer and violinist of the 17th century who found wide acceptance in the English noble salons in Naples. His associations in these environments, often accompanied by musical performances, became so well-known as to be both narrated by contemporary reviewers and portrayed in prestigious paintings. Famous is the image of Barbella accompanied by Lord Hamilton on the violin and Fortrose on harpsichord, featured in “Concert party at home in Naples of Kenneth Mackenzie, 1st Earl of Seaforth,” a precious painting by Pietro Fabris.
The most profound connection with the culture across the channel was, however, destined by Barbella to Charles Burney, an English gentleman and musicologist before his time, who after the friend's death, endeavored to publish some musical collections together with one of Barbella’s most active students, the mandolinist Gabrielle Leone.
