From October 1 to 3, Naples becomes the capital of school tourism and experiential learning. For the first time, the city will host BITUS – International Fair of School Tourism and Learning Outside the Classroom, conceived by Domenico Maria Corrado and organized by Tappeto Volante of I Mercanti d’Arte S.r.l. with CoopCulture, with the contribution of the Campania Region – Department of Administrative Simplification and Tourism. After the successes of Pompeii and Salerno – over 60,000 visitors in previous editions – the event lands in a city that represents the ideal context due to its liveliness, cultural energy, and capacity for innovation.
BITUS is not a traditional fair but a living laboratory, a space where schools open up to the territory and the territory meets the school. Over three days, civil debates, creative workshops, performances, immersive experiences, and operational meetings will engage students, teachers, families, and cultural and tourism operators.
The three-day event begins on Wednesday, October 1 at 9:30 a.m. with the official inauguration at the Archimedes Room, attended by the Campania Region's Councilor for Administrative Simplification and Tourism Felice Casucci, Coopculture Vice President Giuseppe Codispoti, and BITUS creator Domenico Maria Corrado, followed by a roundtable on "Ethics of Hospitality: a Reflection on the Pedagogical and Cultural Values of Regional Tourism," with contributions from administrators, entrepreneurs, and representatives of Campania associations. In Naples, hospitality is not just about accommodation but also about educational responsibility and civic value. Also on the first day, there will be the meeting "Pizza as a Tourist Attraction," led by journalist Renato Rocco with master pizza maker Errico Porzio and other experts. UNESCO heritage and global symbol of Naples, pizza will be portrayed as a driver of creativity, conviviality, and collective identity, capable of becoming even a teaching tool. In parallel, workshops will come to life: from Egyptian papyrus with "Scribe for a Day" to comics with the Italian School of Comix, through to the performance dedicated to the Decameron. Mornings will be enriched by free exclusive visits to the Science Centre and the Planetarium of Città della Scienza, guiding teachers through immersive scientific journeys.
On Thursday, October 2, the central theme will be road safety with the meeting "The Road is for Everyone, Our Safety is a Choice!" promoted by the association For the Roads of Life. Journalist Maria Rosaria Vitiello, a survivor of a road accident, together with lawyer Brigida Marra, will share their experiences. The Highway Police will be present with the Blue Bus, a traveling multimedia classroom equipped with simulators such as special glasses showing the effects of alcohol and drugs on road perception, interactive games, and immersive experiences to reflect on the consequences of accidents. On this same day, the Frasassi Caves will present their educational proposals and launch the Frasassi Green Challenge 2026 in preview, a gamification-based pathway to educate on sustainability. Following this, there will be a focus on artistic tradition with the presentation of the Viareggio Carnival and workshops on composting and English language theater for teachers.
The third day, Friday, October 3, will be dedicated to a compelling civil issue: gender violence. Actress, author, and activist Emanuela Castaldo brings to BITUS a candid and poetic testimony, balancing written words and stage performance. Her book “The Thoughts of a Barefoot Woman” is a touching and sincere autobiography, recounting her personal experience with domestic violence and her long path to liberation, reconstruction, and rebirth. Castaldo has chosen to narrate her story with raw honesty, using a direct but graceful and powerful language, to break the silence that often surrounds victims and give voice to those unable to speak. At BITUS, her presentation will evolve into a performative reading that combines theater and testimony, body and words, offering a deeply emotional experience capable of engaging students, teachers, and families.
It's an invitation to look beyond stereotypes, recognize the signs of violence, cultivate empathy, and believe in the possibility of change. An encounter that will leave no one indifferent. The dialogue with Castaldo is not just a program moment but a declaration of intent. BITUS 2025 confirms itself as a space where the school opens to the world, connects with crucial present issues, and tackles educational challenges with new tools and shared visions.
On October 3, there will also be a B2B Workshop, an event that brings schools and tourism and cultural operators into direct contact: an opportunity to transform ideas and desires into concrete projects, to collaboratively build the educational trips of the future. Teachers from various Italian locations will participate. Simultaneously, "Awaken the Group. Together to Imagine, Dream, and Be Free" is the event proposed by Sottocorrente.it in the Archimedes Room, designed for high school students. The meeting, conducted by Michele Battuello, Fabiana Albanese, and Nicole Guido, combines group training and psychotherapy with inclusive and contemporary languages. After an initial lecture-style section, students will be involved in a collective experience that will help them explore new relationship and discussion modes. The aim is to stimulate awareness, mutual listening, and support capabilities, promoting shared growth pathways. A moment that weaves together psychology, communication, and the artistic dimension as a bridge between school and life.
This edition will be brought to life by numerous exhibitors over the three days, including institutions, museums, foundations, and tourism and cultural operators. Among the entities present are the Viareggio Carnival Foundation, the Friuli Region, the Italian Responsible Tourism Association, Didatour, the MIdA Foundation, Fiavet, Parco Borbonico del Fusaro, and also museums, tour operators, social cooperatives, and associations from across Italy. A varied mosaic offering teachers the chance to build educational pathways capable of intertwining history, nature, art, science, and creativity.
