From September 26, the sixth season of TeatroBasilica entitled "PERSONS - a season dedicated to the public" begins. Many protagonists: Niccolò Fettarappa, Matteo Gatta, Giovanni Onorato, Tommaso Emiliani, Fabio Pisano, Teodoro Bonci Del Bene, Gianni Guardigli, Alberto Bassetti, Pier Lorenzo Pisano, Daria Deflorian, Vetrano/Randisi, Gli Omini, Marco Sgrosso, I Sacchi di Sabbia, Barletti/Waas, Ciro Masella and Francesco Villano, Manuel Giliberti, Francesco Alberici, Frosini/Timpano, Paolo Valerio, Andrea Cosentino, Gioia Salvatori and Paolo Mazzarelli. Greta Tommesani and Federico Cicinelli, the collective BEstand, Labirion Officine Trasversali and the RMN Group, Poetic Punkers, Agnese Fallongo and Tiziano Caputo, Daniela Giovanetti, Gruppo della Creta, Antonio Calenda and Alessandro Preziosi and much more.
As everyone knows, the term "persona", first in Etruscan and then in Latin, corresponded to the masks of theater actors, then came to indicate the character represented and finally, over time, the individual, the human being.
In these six years of theatrical "resistance" in the city of Rome, we have understood the importance of TeatroBasilica. Today, more than ever, the theater is a necessary place for the people of a community to meet. Those who choose to enter a theater want to invest their freedom, their time, to live and experience the "relationship". Theater would not exist without the proximity of "one with the other", because it always takes place in a magical equation made up of people.
So the 2024/2025 season is dedicated to all our spectators, the "People" who convene and who will convene at TeatroBasilica. Over these years they have been many and we have experienced the emotion for the affection they have shown us. They have appreciated or criticized the shows that with care and dedication, together with the Gruppo della Creta, we create and select for them but above all they have embraced an artistic and cultural project proposed by a free space and rooted in their own time.
Our theatrical program wants to be a treatment without contraindications.
Hippocrates, the father of medicine, to heal his patients first of all took them away from daily life and brought them to the island of Kos. On the island he prescribed to his patients, in addition to rest and fasting, to see at least three tragedies and a comedy.

TeatroBasilica confirms the main directions of its artistic project and through them renews its identity. The Basilica is the theater in Rome of Italian dramaturgy, of the new proposals of the latest generation of actors, where you can see or review some of the best shows of the contemporary theater scene.
Over the years, many Italian playwrights have presented their texts in our space. This year we will also host different writers by age and style, proponents of new theater like Niccolò Fettarappa, Matteo Gatta, Giovanni Onorato, Tommaso Emiliani, Fabio Pisano, Teodoro Bonci Del Bene, Gianni Guardigli, Alberto Bassetti and Pier Lorenzo Pisano.
There have been many artists who in recent years have recognized in Basilica the contemporary space in Rome and this year we will also host old friends and new acquaintances who will inhabit our space such as Daria Deflorian, Vetrano/Randisi, Gli Omini, Marco Sgrosso, I Sacchi di Sabbia, Barletti/Waas, Ciro Masella and Francesco Villano, Manuel Giliberti, Francesco Alberici, Frosini/Timpano, Paolo Valerio, Andrea Cosentino, Gioia Salvatori and Paolo Mazzarelli.
But Basilica wants to be above all the workshop of the theater to come.
That is why we have invited some of the most interesting companies of Italian theater of the future to present their research, such as Greta Tommesani and Federico Cicinelli, the Be Stand collective, the artists from Labirion Officine Trasversali and the RMN Group.
The month of December will focus on Shakespeare with three projects: The Tragedy of Hamlet, Prince of Denmark with the translation by Nadia Fusini, directed by Alessandro Fabrizi and Alessio Esposito in the role of Hamlet; an original language version of Henry V interpreted by Solimano Pontalloro and a contemporary reinterpretation of Hamlet by Marco Cacciola.
TeatroBasilica opens for the first time to the hospitality of an international company: the Poetic Punkers from Belgium who will present their latest production Mario and Maria.
The resident company Gruppo della Creta and the artistic director Daniela Giovanetti will present two shows this season: Blessed are you who think of success, we alone think of death, sex around the works of Rodolfo Wilcock and The Water God for the writing of Gianni Guardigli.
On September 26th the opening night will be held conducted by Antonio Calenda with guest Alessandro Preziosi. The two artists will retrace the most recent history of Italian theater to understand how the actor's craft has transformed in the 2000s.
The season opening party will be on September 28th, during which the texts created in the project "P.S. First Draft", organized by TeatroBasilica, conceived by Pier Lorenzo Pisano and funded by the City of Rome, will be read.
A singular novelty, within the season, will be the project "The Room of the Spirit and Time" which consists of meetings led by guest artists of the season; a way to connect the practices and the Roman theatrical community. The exchange days range from two to five days and will be distributed throughout the season.
There will also be multidisciplinary events such as a photographic exhibition in memory of Marcello Norberth, a literary event led by Davide Brullo, in-depth discussions on the geopolitics of Limes Club and book presentations.
The collaboration with Marco Folco and electronic music listening sessions with the project Portraits curated by Miniera Roma continues. The events will take place on Sunday evenings with artists from all over the world.
TeatroBasilica will be filled with many other activities because, by now our audience knows, we never close.
Notes on TeatroBasilica's graphics
In recent years, through the graphic season, we have always traveled from scattered coordinates around the world to then discover the universe; last year we delved into the micro, discovering molds, mycelium and hyphae: an extraordinary journey.
With this season the journey will be more personal: the photos used come from family archives and portray what, in one way or another, are our roots.
A sort of family lexicon but without nostalgia: only the desire to recognize our past while living in the present.
