Tommaso Primo live
Live music
"Vangelo secondo Primo" is the fifth album by Neapolitan singer-songwriter Tommaso Primo. It's a concept album of nine tracks that brings the stories and characters from the Gospels into the contemporary world. The artist, through his personal reinterpretation, places the Gospel characters in more common roles and tackles themes such as consumerism, betrayal, prejudice, lust, and forbidden love. It's an album that delves into the depths of the human soul and encounters social critique within.
"Vangelo Secondo Primo is an album guided by chaos, where the inner journey plays a fundamental role," states Tommaso. "It was buried inside me for a long time and stems from my need to rebel against the idea of religion as a cage. It's a personal analysis of the text of a work that strongly influences our ethics and morals."
Tommaso Primo's new album opens with the track "Jesus Christ Super Saiyan," where Christ becomes a revolutionary against modern consumerism. In "Fiori nel Sahara," Joseph and Mary find comfort in tenderness in a hostile world. "Blue Angel" tells of forbidden love, a flight between heaven and earth, while "Maddalena" gives voice to the dreams of a marginalized woman. "Alchemica preghiera d'amore" celebrates forgiveness and nature, while "Mamma Sole" is a tribute to the strength of the human heart. In "'E Suonne," the singer-songwriter explores the visionary power of dreams, accompanied by Martin Luther King's famous speech, and "Devil" reflects on the presence of evil in humanity. Finally, "Giuda" tells the torment of a man trapped between remorse and greed.
The album cover, created by Neapolitan illustrator and animator Francesco Filippini, represents the essence of the record: an intimate journey between solitude and contrasting thoughts. Through this image, the artist assumes full responsibility for the irreverent title and themes addressed, leaving the audience free to interpret the work as social critique, existential analysis, or a collection of pop, urban, and Latin tracks.
Tommaso Primo, born in 1990 in Naples, began writing songs at the age of thirteen, primarily using the Neapolitan language. His first single, "Canzone a Carmela," was released in 2011, followed by a tour performing in Italian squares. In 2013, with the song "Gioia," he emerged in the Campania music scene, obtaining over a million views on YouTube. In 2015, he released his first album "Fate, Sirene e Samurai," and in 2018, his second album "3103" came out. The following year, he moved to London and collaborated with Irish producer Pete Briquette. During the pandemic in 2020, he wrote and recorded "Favola Nera," a concept album addressing themes of sexuality and telling stories of Naples. Three years after his last album, Tommaso Primo returns with "Jesus Christ Super Saiyan," the first excerpt from a new concept album, continuing to explore social and cultural themes through his music.
