"ANGELS" Solo Exhibition by Cinzia Cotellessa
Studio CiCo Art Gallery – Rome
Opening: Wednesday, December 10, 2025, at 6:00 PM
Exhibition open until January 7, 2026
The Studio CiCo Art Gallery is pleased to announce the opening of the exhibition "ANGELS," a solo exhibition by Cinzia Cotellessa, which will open to the public on Wednesday, December 10, 2025, at 6:00 PM and will be on view until January 7, 2026. The presentation will be led by art critic Piero Zanetov, with the curation done by the artist herself.
The Angels, Theme of the Exhibition
The exhibition is rooted in a reflection on the universal role of Angels in the history of religions and human imagination. These figures, often relegated in traditional iconography to mere supporting roles in sacred scenes, gain full prominence here, returning as messengers of the Divine and a bridge between heaven and earth. The exhibition aims to bring to light a shared ancestral legacy, emphasizing a theme that belongs to all humanity and that, in this historical moment, strongly calls for values such as peace, unity, and harmony.
A Circle Starting and Returning to Rome
The guiding image of the exhibition - two cherubs immersed in a landscape suspended between dream and light - anticipates the atmosphere that characterizes the entire exhibition journey, populated by angels, cherubs, and intangible figures that evoke ethereal, dreamlike, spiritual dimensions. As Italian art historian and TV host Claudio Strinati, who previously presented the artist at the historic exhibition at Castel Sant'Angelo, noted: "A sort of quintessence emanating from the angelic figure to become a symbol of something that goes beyond immediate appearance, taking the form of a metaphor of peace, beauty, and well-being suspended in a dreamlike dimension."
The exhibition, already presented in several international venues, symbolically returns to Rome, where it originated years ago at Castel Sant'Angelo. It includes about 100 works, including red chalk drawings and oil paintings, in which the angelic figure is explored in its most intimate and powerful variations.
Cinzia Cotellessa: The Artist on Display and Her Journey
The exhibition also features the works of gallery owner and artist Cinzia Cotellessa, who has been active in Rome for decades, where she studied art at Liceo S. Orsola and the Academy of Fashion and Costume. Her career began early: at just 13, she exhibited her first works, and in 1981 she participated with her ink drawings at the Festival dei Due Mondi in Spoleto. Her symbolic figurative style is influenced by the Pre-Raphaelites, alternating sensual nudes and ethereal angelic figures, created using ancient techniques such as red chalk and tempera. Cotellessa has exhibited in Europe, North and South America, the Middle East, and the Vatican. Significant milestones in her career include the 2008 exhibition at Castel Sant'Angelo, introduced by Prof. Strinati. Since 2004, alongside painting, the artist has pursued a contemporary experimentation path linked to Cracking Art and ecology, before returning to figurative work in 2011 with a series dedicated to pets, in a pioneering exhibition where "animals were the guests of honor," as the artist recalls.
Other Works and Artists in the Exhibition
Alongside Cotellessa's works, the exhibition will feature works by artists who wanted to pay tribute to her solo show: Bacci, Borrelli, Gallegati, Maresti, Natale, Pietrangeli, and Virgili.
Additionally, hand-painted Christmas balls by artists friends with the author will be presented, offered as unique and precious objects for the upcoming holidays.
The inauguration, with a light dinner at 6:00 PM, will be held at the Studio CiCo Art Gallery located at Via Gallese in Rome.
