Angela Thouless's painting arises from an instinctive and continuous gesture, developed over more than twenty years of research between painting and urban language. Trained in Aberdeen, where she lives and works, the artist finds a decisive moment in 2012 with her encounter with street art in Amsterdam, which marks a turning point in her practice: the wall becomes an expressive space and the spray can a tool of freedom and experimentation.

The works on display are configured as transforming mental landscapes, where ritual masks, symbolic figures, and elements of contemporary everyday life coexist in dense and vibrant compositions. Distant cultures meet, giving rise to a visual language that transcends geographical and temporal boundaries. Color plays a central role in the artist's research: intense, contrasting, and direct, it activates the space of the work and engages the viewer in an immediate way. In this balance between spontaneity and control, play and awareness, the pictorial gesture becomes a sensory experience.

Influenced by German Expressionism, primitive art, and street art, Angela Thouless builds a visual universe in which the painting gesture is direct and almost physical. The decorative strength of the images intertwines with a symbolic and narrative tension that alludes to a collective and ancestral dimension, where the image does not describe but evokes, allowing what pulses beneath the surface to emerge.

The exhibition thus presents itself as a space of encounter and crossover, where instinct and memory, past and present, individual and community openly dialogue. It is a visual experience that invites the viewer to become involved with a free and vital pictorial language, capable of speaking to contemporary eyes.
