Le monde après la pluie
Art & photography
As part of the biennial programming of CONDOTTO48, which includes a series of educational initiatives and multidisciplinary meetings, the project "Le monde après la pluie" by Franco-Brazilian artist Eva Medin is included, curated by Valeria De Siero, with the sponsorship of Rome Municipality VI, the French Academy in Rome – Villa Medici, and support from Terracromata and Carbone Ar’dente.
"Le monde après la pluie" is the title of the artist's homonymous video work, inspired by the painting by Max Ernst (L'Europe après la pluie II, 1940-1942) and the science fiction novel by Philippe Curval.
Eva Medin, by merging the languages of cinema, dance, music, and sculpture, revisits the themes of transformation and hybridization—already present in the works of Ernst and Curval—emphasizing the role of water within the metamorphosis process of the subject, who, through moments of deconstruction and degeneration, becomes formless, incomplete, a vital drive.
The narrative component, the sci-fi imagery, present in her practice responds to an interest in "emancipatory fictions," which have the power to connect the reality of the present and the potential of the future, with a reasoned interpretative key.
Eva Medin (Lumiar, Novo Friburgo, Brazil, 1988) is a Franco-Brazilian artist based in Marseille (FR). Growing up in a multicultural environment, with a Tunisian mother and an Argentine father—who was a mime and musician—her artistic work is profoundly influenced by the strength of the natural environment in which she grew up during her childhood, as well as by her theatrical and musical heritage. Through her studies in scenography at the School of Art in Monaco (Pavillon Bosio) and her degree from the École des Arts Décoratifs in Paris, she began her career collaborating with the world of dance, developing a multidisciplinary and immersive practice in which the relationship between space and body plays a central role. In recent years, she has received several awards, including the Prix des Amis du Palais de Tokyo, the Art Collector Prize, and the Talent Contemporain Prize. Among her recent solo exhibitions are a show at the Palais de Tokyo (2022) and at the Centre Wallonie-Bruxelles (2024). She has exhibited at the Manifesta Biennale in Marseille, the Salon de Montrouge, and the Nuit Blanche in Paris, and has participated in group exhibitions in London, Los Angeles, and at MOCA Taipei.
