Quelli che restano

From February 27 to March 1, 2026, at the Teatro Belli in Rome, the play “Those Who Remain” will be staged, with a subject and dramaturgy by Marta Ferrarini and Emanuela Vinci, and directed by Davide Celona.

The performance is part of the contemporary Italian dramaturgy showcase EXPO – Contemporary Italian Theatre, featuring Marta Ferrarini, Leonardo Lutrario, Luca Molinari, and Emanuela Vinci on stage. Dramaturgical supervision by Giovanni Bonacci, lighting design by Marco Laudando.

SYNOPSIS
A group of four friends – Nadia, Emma, Flavio, and Jacopo – gathers in the park they frequented as kids: there’s one hour left until the funeral of Milo, their fifth friend, who has committed suicide. Excluded from the morgue by his family, the young adults ponder whether or not to attend the funeral.

The confrontation becomes a raw and honest exploration of grief and loss, bringing uncomfortable truths, family conflicts, and generational tensions to the surface.

DIRECTOR'S AND DRAMATURGY NOTES
The performance unfolds on two intertwined narrative levels: the present, which follows the hour leading up to the funeral, and a more abstract layer in which fragments of the past and the inner movements of the protagonists emerge.

The characters navigate through inherited wounds and an obstinate search for meaning and belonging. Their bond takes the shape of a pack: a place to survive, recognize their vulnerabilities, and be human.

Despite the themes addressed, the tone is irreverent, alternating words, body, and music to create a true emotional rollercoaster.

“Those Who Remain” is the debut work of Marta Ferrarini and Emanuela Vinci and is among the five winning projects of the Theatre section of the “Labor Work” call by DiscoLazio, held by the Officina delle Arti Pier Paolo Pasolini.
