## THE OTHER THEATRE
**Teatro Argot Studio**
**2026/2027 season**
The 42nd season of Teatro Argot Studio, entitled *The Other Theatre*, will open with four days of free events—from October 29 to November 1. The title pays tribute to the wonderful 1980 documentary by Giuseppe Bartolucci, Maria Bosio and Nico Garrone, which recounts the experience of the “Roman cellar theatres,” theatre on the outskirts, and the Poets’ Festivals—the cradle of the theatrical avant-garde of the 1970s.
“Argot Studio,” explain artistic directors Francesco Frangipane and Tiziano Panici, “was founded in 1984 out of that experience and, together with many other independent spaces that emerged in Rome during those years, has carried on the tradition of the ‘Roman cellar theatres,’ with a focus on innovation and an awareness of being the keeper of the memory of that past and its incredible protagonists. It has established itself as a home for research, a place for study and experimentation, capable of supporting artists during the early stages of complex projects, offering a space in which those projects can grow, transform and gradually find their own form.”
We will open on October 29 at 8:30 p.m. with a screening of an excerpt from the RAI documentary *The Other Theatre* and Matteo Garrone’s film *Roman Summer*, followed by a meeting with Matteo Garrone, Iaia Forte, Manuela Kustermann and Maurizio Panici, moderated by Sergio Lo Gatto. In the following days, not to be missed: Iaia Forte in *STEPMOTHER*, adapted and directed by Simone Carella—a poetic theatrical narrative—and *NO FIXED ABODE*, a performance combining music and poetry, sung, illustrated, written and performed by Giulia Ananìa and Tiziano Panici: a journey through the contradictions of a city that never dies.
The season continues with two production residencies: Francesco Centorame and Andrea Lucchetta, presented in preview, in *Someone Who Will Love You in All Your Damaged Glory* by Raphael Bob-Waksberg; and Michele Riondino in his *Limerick*, based on the podcast of the same name originally created for Radio1—both brand-new productions by Argot. Also featured are Elena Arvigo with *Notes for the Future*; Elena Bucci, of the historic company Le belle bandiere, with *Shadows*; and Silvia D’Amico, directed by Roberto Rustioni, in *Nada del amor me produce envidia*, a dark fairy tale that brushes against a chapter of twentieth-century Argentine history.
Anticipated guests include I Sacchi di Sabbia with a sporty and surreal reworking of *Troilus and Cressida*—*The Iliad as Told by Shakespeare*; Naples’ Nest theatre with *Impossible Correspondences*, featuring Francesco Di Leva and Adriano Pantaleo; and Enrico Ianniello, directed by Pau Mirò, in *Isidoro*, based on the novel *The Prodigious Life of Isidoro Sifflotin*, winner of the Campiello Opera Prima and John Fante Opera Prima awards. The season will close with *The Wrong Day*, a tragic comedy by Filippo Gili, performed by Massimiliano Benvenuto and Arcangelo Iannace and directed by Francesco Frangipane.
Beginning again in February 2027 will be the **CINEMARGOT** series, with six events featuring the finest Italian documentaries dedicated to great singer-songwriters, from Giorgio Gaber to Gabriella Ferri, Rino Gaetano, Silvestri/Fabi/Gazzè and Brunori sas, as well as a special event on Nick Drake with Roberto Angelini and Rodrigo D’Erasmo. These screenings will be followed by discussions with the protagonists, curated by Martina Martorano, host of RadioRai2.
Other special Argot projects will include **FUORI FORMATO**, or *The Other Season*, featuring six original and unusual projects; **GREEN DAYS**, a theatre series for artists under 35, curated by Dominio Pubblico; the eighth edition of **OVER // THEATRE EMERGENCIES**, a production-support award for theatre artists under 35, organized by Argot Produzioni in partnership with Nest Napoli Est Teatro, Cubo Teatro in Turin, PimOff in Milan and the Torino Fringe Festival; and **Across The Arts**, a new educational project promoted by Dominio Pubblico in collaboration with Theatron 2.0 and Zalib, the Youth Centre of Rome’s First Municipality.
There will also be masterclasses, workshops and professional training courses, including the advanced course for actors and actresses led by Filippo Gili, Massimiliano Benvenuto and Arcangelo Iannace, dedicated this year to Chekhov’s *Three Sisters*.
