Art & photography
On Saturday, October 12, 2024, at 6:00 pm, Rosso20sette contemporary art presents the solo exhibition "Journey to the Moon" by Marco Rèa, accompanied by texts by Ivana Salis and Marco Rèa.
The exhibition features twenty-one works on paper and, for the first time, works on canvas, accompanied by a catalog with a multiple on paper of only 50 signed and numbered copies.
In this new exhibition, "the artist, a careful observer, anthropologist, invents a new vocabulary of signs to define human types halfway between seekers of the future and disillusioned, a portraitist by osmosis from glossy and filtered advertising posters, he extracts soul and psyche, individual and collective," writes Ivana Salis. "His characters, as he has defined them as passengers, transport themselves on imagined planes of present and future changes, of hopes and expectations, of claims, of identity searches. The concept of journey permeates contemporary aesthetics, from photography to digital image; it proposes perfect, non-existent and satisfying scenarios. In the lines built with sinuous consequentiality of the sign, on canvas and paper, the black outlines with its thickness, now expanded now thinned, the volume of the faces that compose Rèa's humanitas, a large crowd gathered to represent the history of peoples and contaminations. [..] The travelers of Marco Rèa, before landing on the Moon, we could find them on the walls of our cities or our small villages, looking at us with expectation. This is a characteristic of the artist, who brings his works to be always in a tight dialectic between the systemic space of art and the free expression of the urban, community, and public context. A narrative of relationships, memories, and possible futures among occasional inhabitants of the Earth."
And the artist: "Marco Rèa deliberately provides us with few elements, leaving the observer the pleasure of imagining and creating a possible story. From the title of the exhibition, we know that it is a journey to the Moon and we know that what he presents to us could be a crew, but what is the reason for the journey? And who are the protagonists? Where do they come from, how old are they and what is their gender? We don't know, or rather it is up to us to decide. The observer becomes an interpreter in this exhibition, and each of his points of view is as valid as that of the artist. Have a good trip."
Marco Rèa, a Roman artist, was born in November '75. He pursued artistic studies first at high school, then studying comics and finally graduating in contemporary art history. For years he has been in close contact with the Roman writing scene and graffiti. He has exhibited in numerous galleries in Europe, the United States, Japan, and collaborated with world-famous personalities such as Nick Knight, Kate Moss, Chloe Sevigny, etc. From 2005 to 2019 he has carried out his artistic research defined by the artist "De Brand" (painting intervention on advertising posters), while since 2020 he has developed a path linked to street art and stencils called "Grovigli" or line art. The undisputed protagonist of his research remains the woman and her most intimate, emotional, and psychological aspects. He has worked for Disney/Marvel, Fendi, Mondadori Electa, Universal Pictures, Show Studio, Vogue Magazine, Liberty UK, Lampoon Magazine, etc.
