ARGOT 40, forty years of theatrical research
Starting October 18, 2024, a program packed with events, world premieres, special projects, performances, screenings, and an exhibition at WeGil to celebrate the 40 years of activity of the historic Roman "factory" space.
Argot turns 40. With resilience, tenacity, and perseverance, never losing its way, it has spanned generations of authors, actors, directors, and historical cycles, managing to maintain its nature and withstand time by adapting chameleon-like to the historical and cultural changes of this city.
A place, Argot Studio, that has always had the vocation of being a space open to the possibility of thinking theater and doing it in practice, a continuous attentive observatory on Italian dramaturgy and the new generation of actors and directors who periodically contribute to changing and renewing the way of doing theater. A real factory where one can engage in fruitful artistic exchange and continuous interaction between dramaturgical writing and the groups of actors and directors who stage the works. A home for artists, but also for the audience who have always been fortunate spectators of what has been defined by all as the place of "living cinema," where the sweat, glances, and silences of the performers become the absolute protagonists of the narrative thanks to the opportunity to enjoy proximity to the actors and have a "close-up" view of the show.
This anniversary season is studded with great returns of artists who have frequented Argot consistently or even just briefly over the years. To pay homage to this symbolic place of experimentation, this season will be characterized by a crossover of generations who will inhabit the magical space of Argot Studio.
The season opens on October 21 with CINEMARGOT, a film series, and continues with numerous theatrical productions, including world premieres and collaborations with renowned artists and new talents in the theatrical scene.
On November 21, A Report to an Academy by Franz Kafka will inaugurate the theatrical season, followed by productions by artists such as Roberto Latini, Valerio Binasco, Elena Arvigo, and Filippo Timi.
The range of events underscores the historical importance of Argot as a center of production, experimentation, and artistic training in Rome.
Argot's history has roots in the 1970s, transforming from "Il Cielo" to an iconic space named Argot, a cultural reference point for theater, cinema, and television.
Argot Studio is located at Via Natale Del Grande, 27, 00153 Rome, and continues to offer performances and training to the public and new talents.
