“THE WALL”

From April 4 to 10, 2025, Medina Art Gallery presents a solo exhibition by Yulia Gladkaya, known as Birò, entitled “The Wall.” The curatorial text and presentation are by Grazia Mocci, hosted at the gallery on Via Merulana, 220. The opening event will be held on Friday, April 4, 2025, at 6:00 PM at the gallery on Via Merulana, 220, with a presentation by Grazia Mocci.

Birò’s solo exhibition is set as an adventure at the boundary between the organic and the artificial, inviting the visitor to immerse themselves in a hybrid universe where cybernetic creatures take shape through the essential and incisive strokes of a ballpoint pen. Born in St. Petersburg and a graduate of the Brera Academy, Birò intertwines personal memories with a global imagination in her works, subtly revealing her cultural roots. Each drawing comes to life from listening to a song, predominantly rock, which serves as a muse and emotional bridge between the artist and the spectator.

The centerpiece of the exhibition is an installation inspired by Pink Floyd's “The Wall”: a mosaic of about fifty works that come together in a single visual structure. Far from being a barrier, the wall becomes a threshold open to new imaginaries, reflecting on contemporary identity and the permeability between the real and the virtual. The hybrid figures, fragile and unbalanced, evoke the ongoing dialogue between technological evolution and nostalgia for lost humanity.

With the use of a Bic pen on A4 format, Birò challenges the speed of the digital age, proposing a meditative reflection where every line is an act of resistance and memory. “The Wall” is not just an aesthetic inquiry, but an exploration of current tensions, in which every brick represents an aperture for questioning the meaning of being human in the era of pervasive technology.
