POP ART, la mostra collettiva d'arte moderna e contemporanea
Art & photography
The Galleria d’Arte Studio CiCo presents the group exhibition "POP ART," scheduled from May 16 to 30, 2025, at the location on Via Gallese 8 | 10 | 12, Rome.
The opening will take place on Friday, May 16, at 6:00 PM, enriched by the singing performance of American artist GIOCONDA, an overseas voice that will add a vibrant touch to the atmosphere of the event.
The exhibition is the result of a careful selection by Prof. Piero Zanetov, art critic, and Cinzia Cotellessa, artist and artistic director of the gallery. On display are the works of Franco Bacci, Miriam Brancia, Mariajose Callejas, Cinzia Cotellessa, Giosetta Fioroni, Gabriella Frustaci, Egidio Gramantieri, Edoardo Iacolucci, Pierpaolo Mancinelli, Barbara Maresti, Ruggero Marino, Walter Necci, Filippo Romagnoli, Liliana Sarrocco, Luca Theodoli, Massimo Turlinelli, Paolo Viterbini, Nelly Volcanes, and Vilma Volcanes—artists diverse in background and vision, but united by the desire to engage in various ways with the legacy of Pop Art.
A Journey through the History of Pop Art
Born in the post-war period between Great Britain and the United States, Pop Art established itself as an aesthetic and cultural revolution, breaking the boundaries of academic art to give voice to the collective imagination and the new consumer society. Early signs of the movement appeared in the United Kingdom, thanks to figures like Eduardo Paolozzi, who, as early as 1947 with his collages (including the famous "I was a rich man's plaything"), foreshadowed the impact of advertising images and mass products on contemporary art.
In the United States, the movement exploded in the 1960s with iconic figures like Andy Warhol, famous for his screen prints dedicated to Marilyn Monroe and Campbell’s Soup, Roy Lichtenstein with his comic book-inspired paintings, Claes Oldenburg with his monumental sculptures of everyday objects, Tom Wesselmann, James Rosenquist, and Arman, each capable of transforming the banal and the everyday into a disruptive artistic language.
Simultaneously, Pop Art also found fertile ground in Italy. In Rome, in particular, an original and autonomous current developed, known as the “School of Piazza del Popolo,” which had its epicenter in the capital's historical galleries like La Tartaruga and the Galleria del Centro. Among the most famous figures is Giosetta Fioroni, the only woman in the group, who explored the female universe and contemporary myths with her famous "silvers." Other artists like Mario Schifano, Franco Angeli, and Tano Festa reinterpreted the symbols of popular culture and consumerism with a critical and poetic gaze, often also linked to the Italian figurative tradition.
The "POP ART" exhibition aims to collect and reinterpret this rich visual heritage, creating a dialogue between the great legacy of international and Italian masters and the new contemporary artistic sensibilities. Through paintings, collages, installations, and digital works, the artists on display offer a current reinterpretation of the pop language, still capable of surprising and questioning the viewer today.
"POP ART" is not just an exhibition: it's a visual explosion, an emotional journey between familiar icons and new provocations, a poetic reflection of our contemporary reality. An invitation to look at the everyday with new eyes, where every image can become art.
