BY ALDO DE BENEDETTI
DIRECTED BY FRANCESCO BRANCHETTI
A SHOW NOT TO BE MISSED!
AT THE ECOTEATRO IN MILAN
FROM FEBRUARY 20 TO 22, 2026
After a long, hugely successful tour across Italy, the hilarious comedy by the great playwright Aldo De Benedetti, “The Honorable, the Poet, and the Lady,” arrives at the Ecoteatro in Milan, featuring Lorenzo Flaherty, Francesco Branchetti, and Isabella Giannone. The direction is by Francesco Branchetti, with music by Pino Cangialosi.
A highly relevant grotesque comedy, well-known even abroad.
An honorable man, Leone, is very attracted to Paola, an elegant and cunning journalist. One evening, the honorable man invites her to his home, but nothing will happen—she provokes him and continuously puts him in awkward situations. After the journalist leaves, Leone discovers that a man, Piero, a broke poet, has sneaked into his home and has been listening to his conversations from behind the curtain. This chance encounter leads to a series of events that will change the lives of the two men, resulting in a succession of misunderstandings and hilarious mix-ups that will have unpredictable, not always pleasant consequences, and uncontrollable hilarity. A dense plot of allusions, exchanges, pranks, and blackmail, showcasing intelligence in its most entertaining aspects.
An impeccably constructed comedy that guarantees the theatricality cherished by De Benedetti. A representation of the salons of Italy filled with men of power, circles of relationships, the selling off of real or presumed talent, ambitions; a mirror of a society that is still, unfortunately, very relevant today.
An analysis of a game of identity, of social exchange that risks being the malaise of our times amidst the social and political chaos we are experiencing. The direction aims to convey the extraordinary ability of the author to investigate, analyze, and narrate the banality, the everyday, the futility of conventions, and the ruthless rhetoric of relationships in a hilarious ballet among the characters.
The show features Lorenzo Flaherty in the role of the Honorable, an actor who has built his fame on the quality of his performances and has worked with prominent Italian and foreign directors and actors such as Irene Papas, Ben Gazzara, Maria Schneider, Hanna Schygulla, John Savage, Annie Girardot, Frank Finley..., Francesco Branchetti in the role of the Poet, who has received several of the highest awards in Italian theater and boasts a curriculum filled with great performances and many leading roles; he has acted alongside renowned national and international actors like Bruno Ganz, Laurent Terzieff, Aurore Clément, Barbara De Rossi, Roberto Herlitzka etc., and has been directed by many internationally acclaimed directors and, as a director, has worked with true icons of cinema and theater, including Gabriele Ferzetti, Pino Micol, and many others; Isabella Giannone as the Lady, an actress with a long career in theater, film, and television, always portraying leading roles in major Italian theaters.
