La Ghironda Summer Festival 2024

The multinational of sounds and colors returns to celebrate in Puglia with the twenty-seventh edition of La Ghironda, the festival of popular arts and cultures organized by the homonymous association, this year scheduled for Sunday, July 28 and Monday, July 29 in the historic center of Ceglie Messapica, where the performances will begin at 7:30 pm.

The classic carousel with rotating performances by artists and performers will take place along a path of eight stations located on the steps of the Municipal Theater, in via San Rocco, in piazza Sant'Agostino, piazza Plebiscito, the atrium of the Med Cooking School, largo Ognissanti, largo Monterrone and the Garden of the Maac Museum: places that will become stages and showcases for the multiple languages of street art.

The program will range from theater to circus and figurative arts to music in its various declinations, with the most genuine expressions of African American tradition in the proposal of the Delta Blues Trio, but also with the folklore of marching bands evoked by a group of musicians called Girlesque Steet Band, who, playing and moving, wink at the burlesque genre.

Andrea Cello will propose a florilegium of film music, while Falasca will perform a series of virtuosities on the accordion, an instrument in which he is a champion. South American sounds will be heard with the Venezuelan Marben Luque, who will propose a repertoire of songs from the tradition of his own country. And if with the Giramondo Trio the sounds will revolve around the globe, with Kamafei the feet will remain firmly planted in popular Salento music, between tradition and contamination. Brazilian music is expected, instead, with the Brasil Nas Cordas Quartet, while the tribute to the six-string will come from guitarist Leonardo Marcucci in a duo with singer Jole Canelli and the flamenco rhythms of the Spanish quartet led by Manuel Alonso.

Leaving spectators breathless with their noses up are the Afro Jambo Geegs, a collective of Kenyan artists specialized in acrobatics and circus arts, a subject in which Neapolitan performer Giulio Linguiti is also expert, having practiced artistic gymnastics for over fifteen years before becoming an actor and street artist. And with acrobatic art, seasoned with a touch of clowning, the Duo Sabana are quite adept, while Mago Daigoro and Silvio Gioia are respectively masters in the art of illusionism and shadow play, just like Monsiuer Coco, an expert fire eater.

Comic theater will speak with Giorgio Monteleone and Elena Farulli, in art Teatro Tragabai, a reality that combines the musical aspect with physical, direct and frontal theater, in continuous dialogue with the spectators. Only on Monday, at 9:30 pm, on the steps of the Municipal Theater, the audience will be able to see Sandro Fabiani in action in the show "Drop by Drop" promoted by Armamaxa Teatro, a passionate story about the sufferings of planet Earth and the story of the late Carlo Urbani, a doctor of the poor and the last who was the first to identify SARS.
