Festival Bande a Sud | XXII Edizione | Fiesta del Teatro Due Mondi

The creation, presented for over thirty years in dozens of countries around the world, will be proposed as part of the Bande a Sud Festival.

"An itinerant show that transforms the streets into a South American festival. Drum rhythms, three-meter tall characters with papier-mâché faces, colorful patchy costumes, flags and whistles, fires fill the squares, streets and alleys of the cities": Alberto Grilli, director of Teatro Due Mondi introduces Fiesta, which on Tuesday, August 13 at 9:30 pm will be staged in the historic center of Trepuzzi, in the province of Lecce, as part of the big Street Bands Festival, the heart of the twelfth edition of the Bands a Sud Festival - sounds between two seas.

"Fiesta approaches, people prepare to follow the cheerful and imaginative parade. Suddenly, a stop: the spectators form a circle to witness the battle between a bandit and Erendira's lover, a duel followed by a wild race of jumps and acrobatic dance on stilts" add the performers Federica Belmessieri, Denis Campitelli, Tanja Horstmann, Angela Pezzi, Maria Regosa and Renato Valmori. "In a onomatopoeic mix of languages, we evoke small burlesque stories freely inspired by a story by Márquez. Various popular songs and Italian anarchist tradition comment on the action and are accompanied by the accordion".

Founded in Faenza in 1979 as a group theater, Teatro Due Mondi has since been committed to a research aimed at building a cultured and popular theater, both indoors and outdoors, rooted in tradition but striving to build a language accessible to everyone, attentive to capturing the urgencies of society. One of the goals of their work has always been to create a dialogue with audiences with fewer opportunities (foreigners, people distant from cultural consumption, socially disadvantaged groups, youth). In over forty years of militant activity, they have brought their shows and their artistic and social projects around the world, from Northern Europe to South America, from Asia to Eastern Europe (more than four thousand performances in theaters and squares in thirty-six countries on four continents).
