New summer appointment of
Aperitivo d'Autore, this time the keywords are humor and introspection. On
August 29th the guest of the
Volta la carta format will be
Guido Catalano, Italy's most famous performing poet. For the occasion, he will present his latest book
What Do Women Do in the Bathroom? (
Feltrinelli Publisher).
The event will take place in an unprecedented location for Aperitivo d'Autore: the
square of the Old Church of Santa Maria, in
Crispiano. We look forward to seeing you there at
8:00 PM. As usual, a good artisanal aperitif will be served to welcome the participants, this time prepared by
Symposium Cafè, accompanied by the wines of
Cantina Lama di Rose.
Catalano's new work is an intimate and hilariously funny story in verse about a young man who, from the moment of growing up, adolescence, into adulthood, continues to question the mysteries that reside in women's hearts. Mysteries that accompany males into adulthood, starting with the question of questions: what do women do in the bathroom? No male has ever discovered it or found the keys to penetrate the secret, hidden better than the Coca-Cola formula. Between reflections and laughs, the author from Turin gives us a whirlwind waltz, a (not swan) song, a romantic ballad, a mysterious mystery that will finally, perhaps, be revealed.

• THE AUTHOR •
Born in Turin in 1971, Guido Catalano is Italy's most widely read poet. With his performances, he fills theaters and squares, and his books have sold over 150,000 copies. He is the author of poems, novels, fairy tales, and podcasts. His works include "D’amore si muore ma io no" (2016) and "Ogni volta che mi baci muore un nazista" (2017), as well as "Ti amo ma posso spiegarti" (2011), "Piuttosto che morire m’ammazzo" (2013), "Fiabe per adulti consenzienti" (2021), "Amare male" (2022), and "Smettere di fumare baciando" (2023), all published by Rizzoli. "Cosa fanno le femmine in bagno?" (2024) is his latest book, published by Feltrinelli Publisher.
• THE BOOK •
There is a seven-and-a-half-year-old child, the shortest in the class but the head of a secret society whose mission is to unveil the mysteries of the world of women. Then one day he meets a girl with red hair and all his certainties end in a dizzying spiral like a Girella before collapsing like a Lego castle. There is a shy and awkward boy who cannot understand the fact that, while love events happen all around, he shows an almost supernatural ability to collect impossible infatuations. He feels like he's living in a poorly distributed B-series movie until the Girl Lightning, the Girl of the Smiling Buddha, and the Girl Island burst onto the set. And the direction changes. Finally, there is a kind of poet who watches with tenderness and curiosity the adventures of the child and the boy. And there are many madeleines, so many that they could open a bakery of memories. "What Do Women Do in the Bathroom?" is a "sadly cheerful" ballad in free verse with incorporated music, to regrasp just enough poetry to survive in a world not the easiest among those possible.
• THE LOCATION •
The church of S. Maria, or church of S. Angelo, but for all the people from Crispiano "Old Church", dates back to the 16th century, but presumably was built on the ruins of a pre-existing church. It is located near the Grotte del Vallone, in the center of the medieval hamlet of Crispiano. In Ionic-Romanesque style, the church became the first parish of Crispiano. Inside, it contained many frescoes that unfortunately time and neglect have almost completely erased. In recent years, the church has had various uses, including the headquarters of the municipal infopoint.
• THE WINES •
The Tagliente family has always been dedicated with great passion to the cultivation of vineyards. This dedication, combined with a spirit of sacrifice, has been passed down from Domenico and Margherita to their children. With the aim of excelling in viticulture and enhancing the goodness of the wine productions that the territory is capable of giving, they decided to enhance native grape varieties. These include grapes such as Primitivo, Verdeca, Fiano Minutolo, in addition to some non-native grape varieties that, combined with theirs, produce wines of great structure and drinkability. With the goal of maintaining a single technical and productive entity capable of facing the challenges of the market, the Tagliente brothers established the agricultural company and winery named Lama di Rose. In 2003, they opened the winery for grape transformation, which boasts an area of approximately 28 hectares, including eighteen for vineyards, five for olive groves, four for arable land, and one for Mediterranean scrubland. In recent years, Lama di Rose has been enriched with new components that are bringing innovative ideas to the company, the vital sap of a young and modern enterprise. Currently, the wines produced are: Pizzichicchio (Primitivo IGP Salento), Fucaraz (Primitivo IGP Salento), Tufaja (Pinot Bianco IGP Salento), Cabernet (Red IGP Salento), Broj (Verdeca), Zippero (rosé). All the vineyards are located in the municipalities of Crispiano and Massafra. The winery and the sales point are located in Crispiano, in via Paganini.
