THE REDISCOVERY OF LORENZO MINEI MUSICIAN-PRIEST IN THE NEAPOLITAN BAROQUE WORLD

The conference aims to study composers born in Taranto or in the province of Taranto between the 17th and 19th centuries, investigating their training and above all their ties with the musical environment of Naples and its conservatories. The speakers, chosen among the leading experts in the field, will examine not only the surviving scores but also the channels of patronage and the relationships with secular and ecclesiastical institutions in which masters such as Fago, Minei, Paisiello, and Fiodo worked. Major stars and underrated musicians will be equated in order to better understand a social cross-section and the functioning of those mechanisms which, starting from the Baroque period, determined the migratory flow of musical personnel from the provincial kingdom to the Neapolitan capital. It will also be an opportunity to discover new musical sources to be valued and rediscovered in concert and performance settings. To date, sporadic research on Tarantino musicians has not been rewarded with a space for broad reflection, and this conference would mark a first step in the process of rediscovering a musical heritage that is both local, regional, and national identity.
