WELCOME TO THE ESPOSITO HOUSE
written by Paolo Caiazzo, Pino Imperatore, Alessandro Siani
No one forced Tonino Esposito to become a criminal. Yet he wants to do it at all costs, even though he is unlucky and clumsy. Because he wants to appear strong in the eyes of everyone. And because he is obsessed with the memory of his father Gennaro, who before being killed was a powerful and revered boss in the Sanità district, in Naples. So Tonino, between nightmares and clumsiness, gets involved in a series of tragicomic misadventures that lead him to clash with his family, with the ruthless laws of criminality, and with the clan leader Pietro De Luca, known as 'o Tarramoto, who has taken his father's place. And when he can't take it anymore, when everything and everyone turn against him, he goes to the ancient Fontanelle Cemetery to talk to a skull that legend has it belonged to a Spanish Captain. In an attempt to bring him back to honesty, the Captain's skull turns into a ghost and moves into Tonino's house. From the comedic "collaboration" between the two, hilarious episodes are born, which culminate in the period when Tonino, after getting 'o Tarramoto in trouble, is put under house arrest by the clan leader and falls into depression. Around Tonino, the Captain, and De Luca, other memorable characters move: Patrizia, Tonino's wife, a busty and authoritative woman; Gaetano and Assunta, Patrizia's parents, who constantly argue; Manuela, the widow of boss Gennaro, a woman of noble feelings; Tina, the young daughter of Tonino and Patrizia, who fights against her father's illegal behavior. In the Esposito house, there is also an animal presence: Sansone, a meditating iguana, who provides a counterpoint to all the funny moments of the comedy. The play is a combination of irresistible dialogues, plot twists, and messages of great ethical value, bringing out the most vulgar and ridiculous aspects of criminality, reviving the great Neapolitan comic tradition, and making people laugh and reflect. A new way of telling and denouncing crime, perfectly in line with the contents of the bestselling novel "Welcome to the Esposito House," which was a literary sensation. A book that climbed the charts thanks to word of mouth and the enthusiasm of thousands of readers throughout Italy and has been adopted by schools, public institutions, anti-mafia associations, civic committees, and groups fighting for legality.
