Vittorio Salvemini came from nothing and, as expected, wants it all. A construction tycoon who arrived in Bari when he was barely thirty, from the 1970s onwards he has had a series of professional successes that have made him the owner of construction sites where the sun never sets, from Bari to Phuket, passing through Paris and Istanbul. Only the contradictions of any unrestrained ascent will be able to shatter his certainties. Linked to these is the death of his daughter Clara, found dead at the foot of a parking garage. The Ferocity is based on the novel of the same name by Nicola Lagioia (Giulio Einaudi Editore), winner of the Strega Prize and the Mondello Prize in 2015, it stages the triumph and ruin of the West. It does so by telling the story of the Salvemini family, a family saga in which the sins of the fathers are reflected in the weaknesses of the children. A bestiary that speaks of our inability to suppress the instinct of domination and our perpetual imprisonment in the laws of nature. The story of the Salvemini family has the warmth of a contemporary tragedy, both particular and universal at the same time, and feeds on the words born from the pen of a great novelist, born and raised in a South always crossed by great narratives.
