Il fu Mattia Pascal - Geppy Gleijeses

Mattia Pascal, published in 1904, is the novel that brought Pirandello worldwide fame and which, in continuity with Wilde, Dostoevsky, Stevenson, and simultaneously with Conrad, Freud, Kafka, will flood the literature of the Twentieth Century with the theme of the Double, the Doppelgänger, in such a pervasive way as to irritate Nabokov who considered it "deadly boring." In reality, in Pirandello's seminal novel, the vicissitudes of Mattia Pascal and his mirror Adriano Meis are the opposite of boring: there are so many plot twists, and the space/time where they occur in continuous overlapping, as to suggest a non-realistic key in the reduction for the scene and to induce the theatrical machine to mix with the parallel language of cinema, also developed at the beginning of the "short century."
