Fos 2024 | Concerto d'organo di Diego Cannizzaro

The FOS, now in its tenth edition, continues its itinerant journey with a concert by Diego Cannizzaro, the organist of the Cathedral of Cefalù. The much awaited event is scheduled for Sunday, October 13 in Galatina at the charming Basilica of Santa Caterina d'Alessandria (7:30 pm). Among the many artistic treasures, the Basilica houses a precious specimen of a 1558 Neapolitan pipe organ (restored by Tollari in 2008), which on Sunday we will be able to hear again in the fascinating repertoire interpreted by the master organist, in perfect harmony with the age of the instrument. The program includes works by late sixteenth-century composers such as Antonio Valente, Giovanni De Macque, and Bernardo Storace. The famous Toccata and Variations on the Folia of Spain by Alessandro Scarlatti will close the concert, in a stylistic journey from the sixteenth century to eighteenth-century sounds.
Active as an organist, pianist, and harpsichordist, Diego Cannizzaro has been invited to various music festivals throughout Europe and the United States. He directs the Department of Liturgical Music at the Tisia University Institute, teaches organ and historical keyboards at the Bellini Music Institute in Caltanissetta, and is an honorary inspector for the historic organs of the Sicilian Region. He has recorded numerous CDs for "La Bottega Discantica," "Bongiovanni," and "Tactus," mainly focusing on ancient music from Southern Italy and late nineteenth-century Italian organ music.
The FOS, directed by Francesco Scarcella, is organized by the J.S. Bach Music Cultural Institute in Tricase, with the support of the Ministry of Culture and the Puglia Region, in agreement with the Soprintendenza for the provinces of Brindisi and Lecce and with the patronage of the Province of Lecce, the Municipalities of Lecce, Andrano, Minervino, and Salve, the Tito Schipa Conservatory, the University of Salento, and the Dioceses of Lecce (info: 347.6190411).
