Il Misantropo - Fausto Cabra

Andrée Shammah returns to Molière with "The Misanthrope," a story of love, a love-possession, a neurosis. A theme more modern than ever. The protagonist is Fausto Cabra: an Alceste, here in costume, dark, at the center of a world populated by characters dressed in the same style but in different pastel colors, symbolizing a society varied in form, but uniform in substance. Alongside him is an extraordinary company. On stage, there is the 'desperate vitality of a man alone before power, alone before the moralists.' The madman who is mocked by society, but in reality, is the only one who manages to grasp the madness of those around him. He would like to isolate himself in his ideals, but his beloved is not willing to follow him. It is the comedy of the impossibility of expressing oneself freely when one is prey to passions. A comic and profoundly human drama, moving and fierce, about incommunicability and the terrible and laughable short-circuit it generates.

There is no desire to judge; no one is right, no one is wrong, the plot itself is composed of the evolution of each character's positions. And I believe it is precisely in this absence of judgment and in the exploration of different points of view that the true essence of Theater lies, and thus my tribute to one of the greatest authors of all time.
