8ª Giornata Nazionale della "Camminata tra gli Olivi"

On October 27, 2024, Monopoli will host an event celebrating nature, tradition, and local culture: the Walk Among the Olive Trees. This initiative, now in its eighth edition, is part of the National Day promoted by the National Association of Olive Oil Cities and will involve numerous Italian locations, united by a single purpose: raising awareness about the importance of protecting olive groves, an invaluable natural and cultural heritage.

The city of Monopoli has joined the initiative by organizing a walk among its magnificent centuries-old olive trees. The route, which winds through the countryside of the Chianchizza district, will start at Agriturismo Tenuta Chianchizza. Here, at 9:30 AM, the walk will begin and will conclude around 12:30 PM, after passing through one of the most picturesque areas of the region.

During the walk, conducted along an unpaved road easily accessible to both adults and children, participants can enjoy views of the majestic centuries-old olive trees and listen to explanations from industry experts. It will indeed be a unique opportunity to receive scientific and historical information about these trees, symbols of our tradition and sources of the prized extra virgin olive oil. The walk will end with an informal olive oil tasting and sampling of typical local products, a moment of conviviality and celebration of our gastronomic culture.

Participation in the event is free, but registration is required by 2:00 PM on October 26, 2024. It's a perfect opportunity to spend a morning outdoors, amidst nature and culture, discovering the beauty of Monopoli's olive groves up close.

The organization of the event involves the collaboration of various local entities, including Confagricoltura - Monopoli section, Copagri Puglia - Monopoli headquarters, Olio di Famiglia, Municipal Observatory for Youth Entrepreneurship, Terrasud Association, and Coldiretti Monopoli, all of whom promote the value of protecting the olive landscape.

The Walk Among the Olive Trees is not just a walk in nature, but an initiative that invites everyone to reflect on the importance of preserving olive groves, not only for oil production but also for environmental well-being and the conservation of our landscape. This year's slogan, "Saving an olive grove saves lives," aims to emphasize the deep connection between caring for the land and the lives of the communities that inhabit it.
