On the upcoming **December 26**, for the feast of St. Stephen, the inaugural concert of the **2nd edition of the "Christmas Harmonies" festival** will take place, organized by the **AlterAzioni Association** with the sponsorship of the **Puglia Region** and the **Municipality of Bisceglie**, included in the Christmas events program of **Puglia Culture**, as well as in the general schedule of the Christmas calendar **"Colorful Christmas"** of the Municipality of Bisceglie. The idea of bringing music to the suburbs and care facilities has received full support from the Municipal Administration in the persons of **Mayor Dr. Angelantonio Angarano** and **Cultural Councillor Prof. Loredana Bianco**, who from the outset wanted to enthusiastically and convincingly support the initiative, confident that the citizens of Bisceglie would also appreciate the confirmation of an important project from multiple points of view, particularly for the artistic level and variety of the proposal presented.
For this first event, the festival will host the violin and guitar Duo formed by brothers **Flavio and Antonino Maddonni**, the latter having been a naturalized resident of Bisceglie for years. The duo will be enhanced by the superb voice of soprano **Marilena Gaudio**. The concert will feature a section entrusted to the Maddonni Duo, and another as a Trio, a chamber collaboration initiated several years ago.
The Maddonni Duo boasts an exceptional curriculum with a brilliant concert activity at national and international levels. For the Christmas concert, the Maddonni brothers will present a program that, in the words of Maestro Antonino, "proposes Italian melody as a ‘file rouge’ through two centuries of music, in an auditory journey spanning 19th-century virtuosity, Astor Piazzolla’s Argentine Nuevo Tango, and the great melody of classical Neapolitan song."
For the Trio section, the musical journey will continue through various repertoires to listen to more and less famous lullabies until arriving at the famous "Tu scendi dalle stelle" with a small digression into Neapolitan tradition.
The concert **“Christmas in Celebration”** inaugurates the traveling festival of the AlterAzioni Association, which includes widespread concerts, completely free of charge, in various churches in the city and in RSAs in the territory.
The peculiarity of the Festival is precisely in its "itinerant" nature; the concerts, in fact, will take place in different locations. Special attention was given to identifying those located in more peripheral neighborhoods with attached healthcare facilities, with the aim of involving the more vulnerable sections of the population.
The initiative starts with the concert on **December 26 and will conclude on Sunday, January 12, 2025**.
As already highlighted by Prof. Clelia Sguera, speaking on behalf of the association, on several occasions, the festival “Christmas Harmonies” aims to offer the Bisceglie community a variety of musical events to gift, even those living in places far from the center and those who do not have the possibility or ease of following cultural initiatives in traditional live performance venues such as theaters or historic palaces, the opportunity to enjoy high-profile musical moments in easily walkable places closely linked to the territory, such as our city parishes.”
With the first of the seven scheduled appointments, a diverse proposal with equally unique events is being launched. No repetitions are planned, considering the possibility for the same audience to follow the entire festival from one location to another in the city.
The program of events will accompany the citizens of Bisceglie throughout the entire Christmas period and beyond Epiphany, with appointments that will enliven many places in our territory.
Don Francesco Dell’Orco, parish priest of the Church of Santa Maria di Costantinopoli, particularly appreciated AlterAzioni's willingness to reprise, for this second edition, a concert in the church of which he is parish priest, certain of the initiative's high artistic value and its important impact on the parish community and beyond, which this way can benefit from an “intangible asset” otherwise not easily accessible, directly "at home."
“We were impressed by the success that the initiative garnered last year and we wanted to recreate and improve it, enriching it for this new edition. The sensitivity of the municipal administration and the support of PugliaCulture offers us the opportunity to realize our project, and for this, we are very grateful. The rich schedule also includes events of an exclusively voluntary nature that we have been realizing during the Christmas period and not only," stated Prof. Sguera in presenting the Festival.
The entire program will unfold with seven appointments, two more than last year's schedule and three more than planned, which will enliven the festivities and offer further opportunities “to consolidate and strengthen the sense of belonging to the territory by bringing together individual neighborhoods and their inhabitants.”
For the second concert on December 28, the Ensemble AlterSinfonietta directed by Maestro Vito Liturri will perform.
For now, the appointment is set for December 26 at the parish of Santa Maria di Costantinopoli at 19:30, after the evening mass.
