"UNDERGROUND TARANTO"

After years of being closed to the public, the unmissable archaeological route of the city of Taranto is once again accessible. Starting from next Sunday, a series of guided tours of the underground wonders of Taranto's urban center is being launched, organized by "Underground Taranto" in collaboration with the Museion and Polisviluppo cooperatives. It's an exclusive and fascinating journey through the ancient history of the city of two seas, featuring vast areas of Greek necropolises, chamber tombs, hypogea, and the splendid Crypt of the Redeemer.
This evocative guided route through the archaeological areas located in the eastern sector of the city is targeted at industry professionals, enthusiasts, and tourists from Apulia, who are encouraged to join us and support this new initiative of recovering Taranto's archaeological heritage. This has led to the reopening of significant sites that narrate the millennia-old history of Taranto. This enhancement project was made possible thanks to the will of the Taranto City Council and the National Superintendence for Subaqueous Cultural Heritage of Taranto.

ITINERARY:
- NECROPOLIS AREA (the largest funeral destination sector currently accessible in the Greek polis), via Marche
- GENOVIVA HYPOGEUM (Tomb with four funerary chambers - 4th-3rd century BC), via Polibio
- CHAMBER TOMB (hypogeic area dating back to the first decades of the 3rd century BC), via Pio XII
- CRYPT OF THE REDEEMER (the first Christian church in the city of Taranto), via Terni

DEPARTURE: 10:30 AM from the Necropolis on via Marche (in front of the courthouse entrance)
