PODERI FORTI - Terramare, Ceglie Messapica

With the upcoming release of Poderi Forti, we move a little further south to discover a picturesque corner of the Murgia Orientale, straddling the territories of Ceglie Messapica and Martina Franca. Accompanying us on this journey is the narrative voice of Vincenzo Intermite.

Along the way, we will encounter remnants of the pastoral world that has shaped this land: we will walk along ancient tracks, traces of a past when transhumance was the beating heart of rural life, with roads teeming with flocks and shepherds, guardians of ancient knowledge.

The route will wind through gentle hills dotted with centuries-old olive trees, their branches reaching towards the sky, and dry stone walls that outline the characteristic geometries of the Puglian agricultural landscape. By traveling a small section of the Acquedotto Pugliese cycle path, we will venture into the smaller paths leading to more hidden places. And like a secret kept in the heart of the earth, we will also see an ancient icehouse, where winter snow was carefully stored to refresh the hottest summers.

Our walking journey will end with the arrival at the farm Terramare Agroecologia Resistente, born from Linda and Daniele's desire to create a concrete alternative to intensive agriculture and the exploitation of natural resources. At Terramare, much like the title of the Ursula Le Guin novel from which its name is inspired, one learns to respect nature, to understand the 'true language of things,' and to live in harmony. Terramare produces vegetables, legumes, grains, and extra virgin olive oil using both ancient and innovative techniques, without the use of pesticides and chemical fertilizers. Terramare is an invitation to slow down, rediscover the pleasure of small things, and reconnect with nature and ourselves.
