"I Am Still Here"
A woman, enclosed within the intimacy of her room's walls, is painting her toenails, then her fingernails. An old song comes from the radio, transporting her to a nostalgic yet forgettable past. That woman is Palmina Martinelli, today. With the narrative device of "what if" in "I Am Still Here," we imagine what her life could have been like had she managed to escape that fateful afternoon in November 1981 from the brutal reality that made her, at only 14 years old, the sacrificial lamb. Perhaps she would have found love and gotten married; maybe she would have had two children; perhaps she would have returned to Fasano because despite her past, she couldn't give up her beautiful land. Yes, perhaps.
