Puglia tra Natura e Cultura

On Thursday, May 1, 2025, at 6:30 PM, the exhibition "Puglia: Between Nature and Culture" will be inaugurated at the former convent of S. Sofia in Gravina in Puglia (BA). This exhibition showcases the ink paintings in Chinese style by the artist Serena Bamboonine under the auspices of the Pomarici-Santomasi Foundation and the Municipality of Gravina.

Serena uses water and ink painting with a brush on rice paper, which is done without pencil, eraser, or second thoughts. To do this successfully, it's necessary to enter a meditative state of mindlessness. "Since I moved to Puglia, every day, I contemplate nature. In Puglia, the Yin Earth's strength and the Yang Sky's force meet, creating a fertile and generous place that lives in harmony with human industriousness. Life is always around us and envelops us. Reconnecting with it is what the artist must do to rediscover those things that are not clearly manifest or that we have neglected."

Complementing Serena's works will be the ceramic decorations of Carlo Perretti, which deal with the Green Man. This emblem appears in the decoration of Puglia's architectures from the archaic era until the first half of the last century, after which it is no longer represented because its apotropaic meaning and auspicious purpose have been forgotten. The booklet "The Two Kings of the Year" deals with the battle of the forces of light against those of darkness. The author quickly analyzes the symbols related to this representation and the analogies in Egyptian, Greek, Roman, Celtic, Sufi, and Hindu metaphysics.

The exhibition will remain open until the morning of Sunday, May 11, with opening hours from 9:30 AM to 12:30 PM and 4:30 PM to 7:30 PM, closed on Monday. www.serenabamboonine.com
