LILO & STITCH
Directed by Dean Fleischer-Camp. A must-see 2025 film featuring Maia Kealoha, Chris Sanders, Sydney Agudong, Zach Galifianakis, Billy Magnussen. Original title: Lilo & Stitch. Adventure, Action genre, - USA, 2025, duration 108 minutes.
One of Disney’s most convincing live-action films, reaffirming a never-cloying message of inclusivity and peace.
It could be the innovative strength of the story already present in the original animation, the director Dean Fleischer Camp’s vision, known for his splendid work in stop-motion with Marcel the Shell, or the perfectly chosen leads for the two sister protagonists. Whatever the reason, Lilo & Stitch in live-action works particularly well because it is anchored in a specific way to reality. Of course, there’s the whole science fiction part with Stitch who, in fact, doesn't have a name but a code - Experiment 626 - coming from planet Turo, where it was created to only cause damage by the mad scientist Jumba Jookiba, and is about to be 'alienated' by the President (as in the Italian version) of the Federation of United Galaxies. In short, it is an alien marginalized by its community that, while fleeing to Earth, finds a somewhat "wrecked" family, with Lilo Pelekai, who, after the tragic disappearance of her parents, lives with her just-of-age sister Nani. Lilo, six years old, will believe Stitch is a dog despite being blue, naming him Stitch and keeping him at home against the will of her sister who is already dealing substantially with social workers ready to negatively assess their living alone.
