MUSEO DELL'ASSURDO- Theatrical Tour Guided tours through history and theater at the CIVIC MUSEUM PRINCIPE ROMANAZZI CARDUCCI DI SANTO MAURO_PUTIGNANO (BA)
The museum meets the theater of the absurd.
The guided tour inside the Civic Museum Principe Guglielmo Romanazzi Carducci di Santo Mauro becomes an immersive and interactive experience where visitors encounter bizarre characters, conceived as guardians of the palace's stories and channels of the emotional and perceptual reactions of the guests.
The theater becomes an investigative channel and an exceptional cognitive tool aimed at building a creative bridge between the past and the present, between history and today's society, between the memories of the place and the visitors.
A friendly and nosy caretaker, a role taken from "The New Tenant" by Eugène Ionesco, welcomes visitors, eager to show off her noble "condominium," hopeful that someone might become a new tenant. A woman with a generous soul but incapable of living, she somehow wants to seize the place in search of a sense of belonging tainted by latent individualism.
Lucky, a role inspired by the character of the same name from Samuel Beckett's "Waiting for Godot," is a quirky man with contemporary and youthful features, the soul of a servant and confidant of Prince Guglielmo. He guides guests, observing their reactions, and seeking their help to write a new story in which past, present, and future can coexist, affirming and confirming the museum's value as a collective and shared cultural heritage.
Lucky and the caretaker accompany guests through a museum tour full of surprises... Inside the manor, squatting in an indefinite time between the two World Wars, there are four characters taken from some of Samuel Beckett's plays, waiting for someone to arrive, maybe a certain Godot, perhaps the Prince, or maybe the Prince's guests. The nosy caretaker, in her absurd plans, intends to evict them to rent the rooms to visitors. Lucky intends to free them from their space-time imprisonment, from their eternal waiting, to spark a virtuous encounter between history and modernity, between memory and contemporaneity.
On the museum tour, we meet Vladimir and Estragon: two tramps without a trade who have "seen many things" in the twentieth century, but, for some reason, they remain stuck in the short century, in that interim time, waiting for someone to tell them how to live in the 21st century, how to change the history of a place, of themselves.
In the bathroom, a lady with curious features, always in search of love, embodies all the female figures that characterize Prince Guglielmo's life: Winnie from Beckett's "Happy Days".
In the studies, we find the character of Hamm taken from Beckett's play "Endgame," echoing the prince's own figure, both in his most authoritarian and his more fragile traits.
The history of the museum intertwines with more popular anecdotes, the history of the characters, references to contemporaneity, and the impressions and emotions of the visitors so that from an old story, a new story is always born.
