PANTEATRO - Ogni luogo è Teatro - GIÙ LA MASCHERA

The Carlo Schiavone Cultural Circle, in collaboration with LixLi - Frescheria, following last year's success in bringing a theatrical performance to the historic center of Mottola, is once again presenting open-air theater this year with a theatrical performance that revisits the style of Commedia dell'Arte. This performance revives a much-loved but somewhat forgotten type of show, which has been the forte of the titans of Italian theater, such as Dario Fo and Giorgio Strehler, following in the footsteps of the great Carlo Goldoni, with influences extending to France from Molière to Rostand.

The stage production, in line with what was already presented on the occasion of the International Commedia dell'Arte Day last February 25th, is titled “DOWN WITH THE MASK” and is part of the “PANTEATRO - Every Place is Theater” series, which aims to become a regular event celebrating the art of acting. Characters inspired by those from the “Commedia dell’Arte” will interact with each other through hilarious and entertaining sketches on themes related to everyday life and social issues, such as women's emancipation and workplace exploitation—all approached in an ironic and lighthearted manner but with deep historical and artistic roots.

Theater as we know it today originated with Commedia dell'Arte and Goldoni. The involved actors and actresses are seasoned professionals: Nunzia Gentile, Giorgio Larato, Severino Guerra, and Mina Panaro, who is also the creator of the series and the adaptor of the texts. The event will be enriched with live music from famous 18th-century operas, from Vivaldi to Mozart, performed by musicians Patrizia Miccolis on piano and Mariella Gentilesca on violin.

This is a way to enhance the historic center while simultaneously instilling and promoting love and knowledge of theater, contributing to cultural elevation through an engaging and entertaining journey into the tradition of Commedia dell’Arte, among masks, characters, laughter, and poetry, in a timeless dimension suitable for both adults and children, which will revive emotions and sensations as a tribute to the art of acting, set in the elegant surroundings of Largo Chiesa in Mottola.
