**Saturday, October 4, at 8 PM, in the Mother Church "Santa Maria Veterana" in Triggiano**, the 16th edition of the **International Organ Festival of Santa Maria del Passo**, directed by **Margherita Sciddurlo**, continues with another precious event. The protagonists of both concerts will be an exceptional duo, consisting of **organist Carlo Barile** and **violinist Jannis Roos**, engaged in a concert that intertwines the rigor of Baroque counterpoint with the brilliance of 18th-century violin writing, along with Romantic and late-Romantic intensity, offering a journey through epochs and languages in continuous dialogue.
The program opens with the famous “**Air on the G String**” from the **Suite in D Major** BWV 1068 by Johann Sebastian Bach, a piece that expresses a timeless and almost suspended melody, symbolic of the melodic art of the Leipzig Kantor. This is followed by the “**Sonata in F Major**” Op. 1 No. 12 by Georg Friedrich Handel, a refined example of chamber music style that combines melodic elegance with formal clarity, showcasing the cosmopolitan spirit of the Saxon composer.
Jannis Roos' violin will then tackle “**Prelude and Allegro in the style of Pugnani**” by Fritz Kreisler, a brilliant 20th-century pastiche that reinterprets Baroque forms with a neoclassical flair, virtuosity, and emotional intensity. This will be followed by three movements from the “**Partita No. 3 in E Major**” BWV 1006 for solo violin by Bach - **Prelude, Gavotte en Rondeau, and Gigue** - among the most famous pages of the violin repertoire for their architectural balance and expressive strength.
The focus then shifts to late Romanticism with the “**Largo**” from the “**Suite in the Old Style**” Op. 93 by Max Reger, a tribute to 17th-century models revisited with 20th-century sensitivity, and with the “**Gigue**” from the “**Six Pieces**” Op. 150 by Joseph Gabriel Rheinberger, a composer who successfully blended contrapuntal solidity with a broad and singable melodic vein.
The Triggiano program is completed by the monumental “**Toccata and Fugue in D Minor**” BWV 565 for organ solo, an iconic page by Bach that embodies the pinnacle of Baroque virtuosity and theatricality.
The two protagonists of this refined journey are musicians of recognized international standing. **Jannis Roos** (2002) began studying the violin at just four years old, training with Prof. Conrad von der Goltz in Regensburg and later with Ingolf Turban in Munich. Winner of numerous competitions and scholarships, he has participated in masterclasses with internationally renowned masters and is a permanent member of ensembles like Violinissimo, with which he has graced prestigious stages, including Carnegie Hall in New York. Active as a soloist and chamber musician, Roos is distinguished by his versatility in tackling repertoires ranging from Baroque to contemporary.
**Carlo Maria Barile** (1989), graduated in organ and organ composition with honors from the Piccinni Conservatory in Bari, completed his training in Germany and Italy, obtaining the Konzertexamen in Detmold and a master's in ancient music in Naples. He also pursued parallel paths in jazz and sacred music, with experiences at Berklee College of Music in Boston and HfKM in Regensburg. A versatile concert artist, he alternates between activities as an organist, harpsichordist, and jazz pianist, with an international career that has taken him to perform in Europe and the United States, in addition to engaging in educational activities. The 16th edition of the International Organ Festival of Santa Maria del Passo thus confirms itself as a reference point for the enhancement of organ and chamber music repertoire, capable of combining historical research, refined interpretation, and openness to increasingly diverse audiences.
**Admission is free until seats are exhausted**.
