**Thursday, November 20** in **Taranto** there's a new meeting of the literary series **_Courage Among the Pages_**, organized by **Volta la carta** in collaboration with **Alzàia**, the association that manages the **Women Support Anti-Violence Center**. At **Mercato Nuovo**, **Mariapaola Pesce** will be present, author of the book **_Emmeline Pankhurst_**, published by **BeccoGiallo**. The guest will converse with journalist Vincenzo Parabita and lawyer Teresa Tatullo. We look forward to seeing you at **6:30 PM**. Admission is free.
After the investigative novel of the first event, this time a graphic novel will be presented that offers a valuable opportunity to delve deeper into a historical figure that might be less explored, despite her fundamental contribution to the women's rights movement: Emmeline Pankhurst. Born in England in the mid-19th century into a family where political commitment was intertwined with daily life, she understood from a young age how women needed to take action themselves to change both their conditions and the entrenched beliefs about them being the "weaker sex." She was the one to inspire and lead the suffragette movement with a fierce battle, helping women win the right to vote and becoming a true icon of the liberation struggle. The comic biography written by Mariapaola Pesce and illustrated by Paola Zanghì offers a comprehensive portrait, not stopping at appearances and celebrations, but rather it succeeds in fully outlining the trajectory of a complex and contradictory activist.

**THE BOOK**
Born into a family where political commitment was intertwined with daily life, Emmeline Pankhurst always breathed activism. From a young age, she understood how women needed to engage personally to change both their conditions and the rooted beliefs about them being the "weaker sex." Her motto, with which she inspired her companions, was "Never underestimate the power we have to be the architects of our destiny." Her commitment accompanied her in every phase of her life: in her studies, in motherhood, during the painful period of mourning after the loss of her husband. She became a true icon of the liberation struggle. The graphic novel retraces Pankhurst's steps primarily through events. Paola Zanghì's illustrations recreate the atmospheres of the 19th century in black and white, and with the absolutely contemporary expressiveness of the characters, far from being contrasting, produce a harmonious and engaging effect.
