The biography of Brothers in Arms
with contributions from Daniele De Seta, the book's author
Angelo Fumarola, Lead Guitar & Vocals at Rocking Fingers - Dire Straits Tribute
Published in 1985, Brothers in Arms by the Dire Straits is much more than a global success: with over 30 million copies sold, it is a fundamental chapter of contemporary music, capable of combining technique, poetry, and emotion like few other records.
A Guitar in the Sky guides the reader through the sonic and human universe of this legendary album. Like a craftsman bending over a workbench to examine a well-made object, the author delves into the heart of the work, revealing the behind-the-scenes of the recordings, the hidden stories in the lyrics, and the emotions inhabiting each track. The book reconstructs the creative climate of the 80s, the role of MTV and the Compact Disc, and the cultural and human impact that Brothers in Arms continues to have today. But it is also a personal narrative, the journey of someone who, upon listening to that album for the first time, found a passion capable of transcending time.
Author Biography
Daniele De Seta, a sociologist, guitarist, and scholar of contemporary music, teaches philosophy and human sciences. He has always combined humanistic reflection with his passion for music, a field in which he has extensive experience as both a performer and author. He has played at the Globe Theatre in Rome with the company of Gigi Proietti and collaborated with artists like Francesco De Gregori and Riccardo Sinigallia. He is a member of the tribute band IseiOttavi, dedicated to Rino Gaetano, and plays in the band of Nathalie, the singer-songwriter winner of X Factor 2010. A Guitar in the Sky is his first work: an essay that intertwines musical analysis of Brothers in Arms with a deep passion for the Dire Straits, transforming the listening experience into narrative and reflection.

rOCKING fINGERS ⬌ dIRE sTRAITS Tribute Band
For nearly 30 years on the scene, the Rocking Fingers are the first, historic, and longest-running Dire Straits Tribute Band in Southern Italy, active in Puglia and Basilicata, performing numerous concerts in pubs, squares, and festivals. Founded in 1995 by Angelo Fumarola, a self-taught musician who has developed remarkable mastery of the guitar-picking technique and particularly the touch in the perfect style of Mark Knopfler (legendary guitar-hero leader of the Dire Straits), receiving countless accolades from the Dire Straits & Mark Knopfler international fan clubs since the early 90s, participating in gatherings, meetings, concerts, collaborations, becoming a reference for the "Mark Knopfler Guitar Style" and then playing in hundreds of live shows for more than 20 years with the Rocking Fingers, spreading the "Knopflerian" word brilliantly, earning respect and esteem from the public and industry professionals. Since 2019, they have boasted an intense and prestigious concert activity, touring theaters, arenas, and festivals in Europe, consistently requested as the frontman of Brothers In Band, an acclaimed international tribute band performing European tours in Spain, Portugal, France, Luxembourg, Germany, and the Netherlands. The official Rocking Fingers lineup is comprised of: Angelo Fumarola on lead guitar & vocals, Gabriele Giannuzzi on rhythm guitar & backing vocals, always present since the inception of the project, as well as Dario Fumarola on bass, Angelo's brother, and finally, Antonio Marra on drums, a band member since 2001, who boasts numerous musical projects and collaborations with national and international artists such as the Orchestra of the Notte della Taranta, Carmen Consoli, Noa, Stewart Copeland, among others. The Rocking Fingers concert is a two-hour journey through super hits like "Sultans Of Swing," "Romeo And Juliet," "Tunnel Of Love," "Money For Nothing," etc., and gems for connoisseurs like "Six Blade Knife" or "Down To The Waterline," just to name a few, all interpreted and arranged in the essential rock quartet formation. An engaging and must-see concert for every Dire Straits fan but also for every rock enthusiast, a mature and refined live celebration of the Dire Straits that brings to life the legendary sounds and emotions of one of the most beloved bands in the history of world music.
