Presepe vivente di Locorotondo

The 2025 live nativity scene proposed by the San Giorgio Martire Parish and the Pro Loco Locorotondo will take place in the municipal under-villa on December 27-28 and January 6, with the sponsorship of the Municipality of Locorotondo and support from BCC Locorotondo.

The theme will be “The search for peace…” starting from the “threshold,” as suggested by the pastoral guidelines of Archbishop Giovanni Intini for the liturgical year 2025/26.

An exceptional guide will be Saint Francis, who will be commemorated in 2026 for the 800th anniversary of his death. It was the Saint of Assisi who invented the live nativity scene to bring this extraordinary experience of God’s people closer. This is why in the live nativity scene of Locorotondo, he will guide us along with other characters encountered.

The intention is to create “normal” situations, where everyone pursues their own “peace” without noticing what’s happening around them: unaware of a pregnant woman passing by and a desperate husband seeking shelter for his family.

Starting from the artisans’ village in the “round,” where daily life unfolds, the nativity scene will develop along the staircase, to be climbed, where various scenes will be encountered.

Even in these small situations, everyone will express satisfaction for having achieved their own peace and will remain unaware of what happens outside of their life.

In this context, war also unfolds. Wherever a conflict erupts, it results from the meeting of two factors: the imposition as fulfillment of one's own thirst for “peace/satisfaction” and the indifference of those not directly concerned.

The 2025 live nativity scene will feature over 50 participants and the valuable collaboration of Agesci-Gruppo Scout Locorotondo 1 and Catholic Action.

There will be two entrances: from via Martina Franca, where there is an elevator, and from via Nardelli in front of the Kidor Les Fleurs business. The location is partially accessible for those with mobility issues. Entrance will be free with voluntary donations.
