Saturday, December 27, at the
Church of St. Andrew the Apostle in Bisceglie, starting at
8:00 PM, the third event of the
“Christmas Harmonies” Festival will take place. This festival is part of the Christmas events calendar of the Municipality of Bisceglie, titled "Colorful Christmas 2025," organized by the Department of Culture of the Municipality of Bisceglie.
The series of traveling Christmas concerts in the peripheral neighborhoods of the city is organized by the AlterAzioni Association, with the sponsorship of the Municipality of Bisceglie, represented by Mayor Dr. Angelantonio Angarano and the Cultural Councilor Professor Loredana Bianco.
Launched on December 8, for this third event, the festival stops in the Sant'Andrea neighborhood at the Church of St. Andrew the Apostle located at Via Dr. Giovanni La Notte, 18, Sant'Andrea neighborhood, Bisceglie.
"Christmas Harmonies" is presented as a particularly rich festival offering concerts of various styles and repertoires, featuring unique concerts with no repeats, giving the audience the opportunity, as organizers have stated multiple times, to attend the different events at each city stop.
The idea is to offer everyone, including those living in the city's most peripheral zones, the opportunity to attend live concerts for free, convinced, as the AlterAzioni Association believes, of the necessity and opportunity to create moments of gathering, listening, and participation for the entire community through music.
The third concert, titled
"Christmas in Folk: Christmas Carols in Popular Tradition," will feature the music group
"Abbàscę,” which translates to
"Down" in the Bari dialect, a traditional music project based on research, with performances as its privileged method of dissemination.
The ensemble consists of four musicians, experts in the genre:
Stefano De Dominicis (vocals and battente guitar);
Gianni Gelao (winds, bagpipes, and strings);
Alberto Modugno (frame drums, traditional percussion);
Giuseppe Volpe (accordion and vocals).
Each artist comes from a diverse and extensive musical background that has led them to perform on national and international stages (“Notte della Taranta,” "Eurofolk of Malaga," "Festa della musica" in France, "Mawazine festival” in Morocco, “Radicazioni”, “Suoni della murgia”, “Ragnatela folk Fest”, and others).
Using various instruments from popular heritage, they will perform a repertoire linked to the tradition of Christmas carols from central and southern Italy.
The people's genuine religiosity and sacred music compositions will alternate with Christmas carols, lullabies dedicated to the Nativity, dirges, and songs for the Virgin, which together form a rich and evocative repertoire to be preserved and passed down.
The "Christmas Harmonies" Festival for Christmas 2025 has chosen to present a special edition dedicated to Peace and Brotherhood among peoples. In this perspective, the openness to different genres is not only an aesthetic choice but becomes a choice strongly characterized by principles of inclusion that do not recognize separation or hierarchy between musical genres, even when entrusted to musicians of high and recognized artistic value.
The Concert will take place on Saturday,
December 27 at 8:00 PM, at the
Church of St. Andrew the Apostle, Sant'Andrea neighborhood, in
Bisceglie.
Admission is free until seating capacity is reached.
The next event with the AlterAzioni Association is on Monday, December 29 with the theater-music show
"Everything Can Become Swing" featuring the music group "Dietro le Pinte" at Politeama Italia, then on
January 1 the traditional
New Year's Concert will be held at Palazzo Tupputi at 11:00 AM. The "Christmas Harmonies" return on January 6 for the festival's closing at the Church of San Lorenzo, downtown, with a choral concert directed by Maestro Bepi Speranza.
